Microsoft doesn´t deliver Java as a part of MS Smartphone operating system. Some hardware vendors and some operators are going to offer wireless Java as a part of the software package that they will add on top of Microsoft´s MS Smartphone platfomr. By now however there is no Java for MS Smartphone available anywhere.
After downloading PersonalJava for Windows CE 3.0 (MS Smartphone runs Windows CE 3.0 too) from http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/earlyAccess/personaljava/ - a Java Virtual Machine that was developed to run in Pocket PC running over Windows CE 3.0, we have copied file pjavawince.arm.CAB (downloaded from above link) into MS Smartphone into directory /IPSM/Windows/Start Menu/ and then we started it. Installation has ben carried out with a success and the Java get installed.
Now we can see Java in a menu of the MS Smartphone:
However trying to run it from the menu results in this message:
Then we opened a file manager and we were trying to run the Java directly, the file pjava.exe ("p" stands for "personal"):
... but the result was also negative:
Conclusion: PersonalJava for Windows CE 3.0 from Sun is not running in MS Smartphone, probably because it was designed to run in Pocket PC. It is somehow strange because after all MS Smartphone 2002 also runs over Windows CE 3.0 .
Some hardware vendors have already announced, that they will include Java in their cell phones powered by MS Smartphone. See for example the text "Java" on the picture below:

At http://www.rainer-keuchel.de/wince/kaffe.html one can find KaffeCE - a Java Virtual Machine with AWT for Windows CE. We have actually tried it in MS Smarpthone and it runs!!! However there are problems with displaying on the small screen of MS Smartphone. msmobiles.com is working on bringing this JVM to you for free... please watch this page for more news.
At this moment there is no Java for MS Smartphone available. At least publicly (some companies obviously already developed it but want to sell it to hardware vendors or operators, but not directly to consumers).
