Written by: Jacek Rutkowski.

Your kid or friend has MMS phone with built-in camera but you have Pocket PC Phone and you would like to receive (or even send) MMS messages? No problem, it works:

(picture of a doggie made with camera in the phone to the left can successfully be sent as MMS to the Pocket PC Phone - to the right)

Why is MMS better than e-mail? Because you can get MMS messages totally asynchronously - without the need to poll the server periodically. Microsoft decided not to integrate MMS inside of the operating systems for cell phones, leaving it instead for 3rd party developers. In this article we review the market leader in this area.

Software for sending and receiving of MMS messages from EZOS is available both for PocketPC Phone Edition and for MS Smarpthone 2002. We have tested version for PocketPC Phone Edition:

On the picture above you can see that after installation the name of the program is actually "EzWAP" (version 2.5) and MMS sending program is just a part of the package, that includes also WAP browser:

... from which you can browse your MMS messages and send new ones (as well as browse WAP pages if you fancy it).

The most fascinating feature of EZOS MMS is possibility to receive MMS messages. Here is notification that appeared when somebody had sent us MMS message from Nokia 7650 phone:

... where you can see that phone number of sender was removed. You can notice also that you can fetch the message right after getting notification ("Get Now") or fetch the message later while browsing inbox:

Please note that "fetching MMS message" means connecting over GPRS to WAP-style access point in the cellular network.

While composing MMS messages you can either draw them yourself by use of internal simple drawing program:

... or you can use previously taken pictures (here: picture of stylish clothing made of cell phones):

If you want to send your own pictures through MMS you must however remember to place them in folder "/My Documents/My Pictures" because otherwise the picture selector of the program will not find them:

Maybe for some people the following information, that we received directly from EZOS company (together with this software program for testing) may be of interest:

The fact is our client is not only a Picture Messaging but a real MMS client. It means you create a MMS as you create a PowerPoint presentation by adding object like sound, image, formatted text, multiple pages. You are free to build your multimedia message as you like. You select images and sound stored on your device or you can create you own image (useful for a map), record your voice, create a melody, and select a MIDI file... The software converts it automatically in AMR (Interoperability with other MMS phone like Nokia / Ericsson and reduce the size). If you receive a MMS message that contains something not understandable by our MMS client, it forwards the object to the Operating System and use the right application to play it (e.i.MP3 or other specific format).

Today, our client is integrated in the ROM of the XDA from O2, HP Jornada 928 and the SPV from Orange (Smartphone). All our clients are based on EZOSī MoByKit, our platform-independent toolkit that is available for manufacturers of electronic appliances who want to integrate Mobile Internet technology quickly into their particular platforms. ...
