Private (not-public) consortium of established cell phone vendors, designed to develop software for cell phones with built-in PDA. Purpose of this consortium is to prevent newcomers (Microsoft, Palm, Linux) from attaining any significant market share in cell phone industry. Although Symbian is owned by several corporations, it is controlled and dominated by just one: Nokia.
