About "push email" in Smartphone and its substitutes

If you want the server to actually push the messages to you then you need Windows Mobile 2003 and an Exchange server running Exchange ActiveSync (it's included in the box with Exchange 2003). The only Smartphones in the US run 2002. If you were talking to a T-Mobile guy in the US he was probably showing you a Pocket PC Phone Edition, which does have 2003 available (or it will very soon, I read somewhere they were rolling out upgrades).

Even if you only have 2002 though all is not lost. The mail client supports automatic send/receive ona timed basis. If you set your phone to sync every 15 minutes the experience from the user's perspective is pretty darn close to the push experience.
