Nokia Values exposed

Version 2.

Nokia Values are set of values - principles and guidelines - that are (in some other reality maybe, but not in this one) to be followed and that should constitute the "corporate culture" of Nokia corporation (a Finnish company headquarted and in majority located in Finland, Eastern Europe). The fact that we publish these values here is nothing wrong - by doing this alone we are not revealing Nokia´s corporate secrets because these values are published in Internet at some national Nokia´s websites (like this one). The official version:

The Nokia Values

Nokia´s values are key components of the Nokia Way. Believing in these core values and living them every day is our common bond and shared philosophy. These values drive Nokia colleagues, wherever they are in the world.

Customer Satisfaction:
Bringing customer satisfaction by creating, manufacturing and delivering products, solutions and services to meet customer needs is the basis of every employee´s actions at Nokia. We respect and care for our customers, working in partnership to give them the best possible value. This ensures that individuals and the company can continuously develop their performance.

Respect for the Individual:
We believe in the importance of the individual, whether he or she is an employee, business partner or customer. Nokia is a global and multicultural company, in which individuals have a great deal of responsibility and freedom to make independent decisions. This approach gives a sense of trust, which is needed in our team-oriented way of working. This also enables the company to respond quickly and to serve its customers flexibly.

The variety of cultures and lifestyles at Nokia is an important advantage, enabling better understanding of today´s customers and their expectations. Respect for the individual means open communication, fairness, mutual trust and learning from human differences.

Achievement:
At Nokia, a lot of efforts are taken to ensure that every employee knows and understands the company´s strategies and goals. This helps keep employees committed and inspired. Knowing the BIG picture helps people set and achieve their own goals, be truly accountable and feel empowered in their work.

The msmobiles.com version - translated from Nokian Finnish to plain English:

The Nokia Values

Nokia values are a smoke curtain designed to fool both Nokia employees and investors (stockholders of Nokia shares). Apart from that Nokia Values create false but useful image of Nokia as nice multicultural corporation - image that should increase sales of Nokia products. These values allow to keep employees in comfy feeling that everything is wonderful while in fact the dirty stuff is shuffled under the carpet and hidden before eyes of both Nokia employees and public.

Customer Satisfaction:

"One billion flies cannot be wrong" means that Nokia treats customers as stupid flies that can digest any cr@p (like for example foolish claim that "Nokia phones are classy, similarly like Mercedes cars are"), and who should buy Nokia-only products powered by Nokia-only software (like Symbian, also if some customers need enterprise-ready Microsoft software powered cell phones, not some toy-like Symbian). Nokia´s corporate customers (mobile operators) are nothing but slaves to be exploited. If mobile operators try to refuse buying Nokia´s network infrastructure, then Nokia is suggesting that some "delivery problems of latest Nokia handsets" may to them occur (and the other way around too) and thus mobile operators are being terrorized by Nokia. Nokia also prefers promoting its own Nokia brand (the original name "Nokia" comes from the name of the tiny river in the vicinity of Tampere city in Finland - city which gave saveheaven to Lenin, so that he could commit crimes later; in fact Lenin is still considered by many Finns "a big hero that sojourned in our country" and not one of the biggest criminals of all times) rather than brand of operators. Customer satisfaction means only one thing: how to deceive them into buying Nokia products even if it means not to satisfy the real customer needs.

Respect for the Individual:
Nokia corporation respects rights of Finnish citizens only. If you are a foreign employee of Nokia or non-Finnish business partner of Nokia, then you should be prepared for being cheated and denigrated and at the end you will lose in this relationship with Nokia. Finnish managers of Nokia corporation have huge superiority complexes towards several nationalities and they are trying hard to bring "nice image" to the outside world by employing some multicultural employees from various countries, just to fool end customers and convince them that Nokia is a truly multicutural corporation, which Nokia is not. Nokia is a Finnish corporation ruled by a clique of Finns.

It is important to notice that respect for indvidual applies in Nokia partially, but superficially also to native English language speakers - for example people with American Passport or Brits. Why is so? Because Finns simply want to "improve their language skills" and are treating English native speakers specially - better than other Nokia foreigners (= non-Finns). Native English speakers that work for Nokia have no idea about condition of non-English Nokia foreigners.

Achievement:
Many projects canceled after years of development because of wrong marketing and engineering decisions, several companies purchased for hundreds of millions of dollars and then all employees of these overtaken companies dumped - this is a legacy that Nokia has. If it was not bad enough, the managers of such failed projects and takeovers are being promoted, not removed from the Nokia! Achievement in Nokia means the "cult of some managers" where some single top managers of Nokia are presented as heroes but achievements of individuals disappear into obliteration. How Nokia employees can be commited to Nokia if Nokia is not committed to them, no matter what achievements will they do? Nokia employees are not empowered because there is no sincere discussion and no serious consideration of various design options but everything is dictated by brutal orders from higher level management (typical example: "no matter how good .NET technology is, we are anti-Microsoft, so we use Java").

* * * * *

Conclusion: Nokia is NOT what it seems to be - a multicultural corporation that is friendly to employees and business partners, but it is a brutal Finnish clique directed at destruction of everybody in cell phone industry. The latest decision of Nokia to overtake majority in Symbian is just the tip of the ice berg, ice berg that we hereby revealed to you.

The smartphone wars are just getting started... and we warmly recommend to Nokia: start producing cell phones powered by Microsoft software (like Microsoft Smartphone or Pocket PC) or Nokia will fall.
