Otherwise if you want to embark upon a journey of enlightenment that will lead you to more pleasant, comfortable and free of lies life, then start reading below.

* * * * *

LIE: buying music online through services like iTunes (Apple) or Connect (Sony) is better and cheaper than buying physical cD and DVD discs with music
TRUTH: buying music online means that you are downloading files with limited access - bound to one user or bound to specific number of CD-burning times or even bound to specific PC where given client software is installed. If you buy however music on physical CD or DVD discs, then you can rip-it off to MP3 or WMA or any other *open* format you like - with use of free or commercial programs (like GoldWave that we also use for recording interviews with people for our website) and you are totally free as far as distribution is concerned (within respective copyrights).

LIE: XYZ operating system is the best for desktop PC (where XYZ = Microsoft Windows XP, Linux, Mac OS X, etc)
TRUTH: No operating system is the best. There is no silver bullet. Nowadays with availability of free OpenOffice package all major operating systems are equally usable not only in server but also desktop environments. Which system to chose is a matter of personal preferences - with which system you *feel* better.

LIE: Linux is an operating system made by a Finnish guy
TRUTH: Linus Torvalds, the inventor of Linux kernel, is of Swedish, not Finnish ethnicity. Besides this: he lives in USA and he easily can be considered an American.

LIE: Linux is the best operating system for servers
TRUTH: Itīs not true. For many applications (also free) BSD Unix or Microsoft Windows 2003 Server are better. Also in case of Windows 2003 Server you can run not only Java or PHP applications but it is also the only platform where ASP .NET applications are running. Windows 2003 server can also run regular Windows software natively.

LIE: Java is better than .NET
TRUTH: while there are many environments for Java, there is only one main for .NET. It allows for high level of concentration and lack of confusions. .NET offers possibility to write in several languages (C#, Basic, Pascal, etc) while Java platform is restricted to just one language. C# - one of mostly used languages for .NET - is also greatly superior to Java and has more features. Also: wireless Java (J2ME/MIDP/etc) offes much less functionality than wireless .NET (.NET Compact Framework)

LIE: HP corporation makes the best Pocket PC devices
TRUTH: the Pocket PCs with best price/features ratio are being done nowadays by Dell corporation.

LIE: Apple Corporation is good, Microsoft is evil
TRUTH: Bill Gates from Microsoft owns significant stake in Apple Corporation, so if you think that by buying Apple product you fight Microsoft, you are wrong.

LIE: Nokia is good, Microsoft is evil
TRUTH: Nokia is an evil corporation that bullies operators by threatening them to deliver latest handsets with delays if they will not buy Nokiaīs network infrastructure. Nokia also controls (and owns 49%) Symbian or in other words: it sells software for handset makers and produces handsets itself - what is utterly immoral.

LIE: Nokia phones are like "Mercedes Benz" among cell phones
TRUTH: Nokia is headquarted in Eastern Europe in country named "Finland". This country in times of Cold War was allied with Soviet Union against USA. Nokia phones can be rather compared to "Lada" or "Yugo" cars or another products from Eastern Europe, but not to the best German cars like "Mercedes Benz" or "Porsche" - Finland is far far away from Germany - both geographically and culturally.

LIE: Apple iPod is the best device on planet Earth to listen to music
TRUTH: in most cases your PC computer or your cell phone are much more suitable and cheaper for music listening purposes.

LIE: Unix (Linux, etc) are the best for remote working on the server, thanks to X-Windows
TRUTH: in most cases Remote Desktop from Windows (it can be started by call Start / Run programs / ... / "mstsc" / "OK" button ) offers the same or better connectivity to remote (Windows) servers or simply to Windows XP Professional running on differnt computer.

LIE: Symbian is an "open software"
TRUTH: This is common confusion and even people from Symbian Ltd once even claimed on their web site that Symbian is open software! They confused it with open source software and with ability to run 3rd party programs - ability available in other mobile platforms too.

LIE: Mac OS X is equally good as Microsoft Windows because there is Microsoft Office for Mac OS X
TRUTH: Microsoft Office for Mac doesnīt contain several components of the versions available for Windows. For example there is no Microsoft Access for Mac OS ! So itīs not the same! To get access to full scope of Microsoft Office applications (available in all editions) you have to use Windows XP operating system, not Mac OS !

If you have some other ideas of myths tht everybody thinks that are true, but that are false, please submit them fully anonymously through the web form or by e-mail mentioned there (please indicate whether you want a mentioning you or even link to your website!).
