The 2.0 version brings many improvements and it has only one disadvantage: you need to install it by hand - it's not embedded in ROM of Windows Mobile devices as the version 1.0 ...

Second disadvantage : how many "regular" users are going to download and install a 25 Mb runtime Shocked for an embedded application ?

Third disadvantage : gotta have the CD ready at each hard reset Rolling Eyes

But well, issuing the final framework only a few weeks after the first devices have been deployed, with ROM updates depending greatly on operators will is an interesting kind of joke Cool

The actual runtime is supposed to be 2 MB. I guess the download contains different runtimes for Pocket PC, Smartphone and Windows Mobile 2003/5.0 making it much bigger.

I think the runtime will be included in future ROM updates for at least Windows Mobile 5.0.

So this is no joke.

This particular download must contain also some things for Visual Studio I think. MS should do some totally download only for Windows Mobile devices I think...

More importantly how backwards conpatable will this be. I know the secruity model is supposed to be updated. does this mean I will need both the .net 2.0 and 1.1 frameworks.

it refuses to install on my dopod 818 pro / wm5
os 5.1.70 (build 14409.1.1.2)
despite the fact that I have 45 mB available
it tells me to kill all programs and make more room!!

it also asks if I want to install it on the device or on sd card before it starts, so just for kicks I chose sd card once - a 1gb card - and it told me there's not enough room!!!!!

I will refrain from negative comments about qc rigor at microsloft just because I know nothing about the mobile os's
