| Windows Mobile Smartphone users have been able to view word, excel, and powerpoint document, in native format for at least 2 years using Clearview Suite software. Microsoft's entry into this area is non-news. |

not really because Clearview Suite is not free and besides Microsoft hinted that exists possibility that these programs will be not only able to view but also edit Office files! |

Someone needs to come up with a way to reflash the Pocket PC platform firmware on a Motorola Q. Of course, they won't get past the initial screen calibration...
On a sidenote, do you think Motorola will ever get it right?
Unless I had a full QWERTY keyboard, I'd hate to be editing an Excel or Word document using T9-style entry... I'd commit hara-kiri before I could complete a revision of an Office document on a Smartphone. _________________ Bubble Buster Advanced

What does the cost of Cleavue have to do with whether or not Smartphones have had the capability to view MS Office documents already.
| in the Brighthand article sourced by msmobiles wrote: | This project is in a very early stage in development, and these viewers won't be released until some time next year.
Exactly what features will be included haven't been settled on., yet. Users may -- or may not -- have limited editing abilities. |
Well, considering the software doesn't exist, then there is a possibility of a lot of capability. But so far, Microsoft has only announced a "viewing" capability.
Besides, given your logic, what's to prevent Westtek from adding editing capabilities into their already existing and commercially successful software? |

exactly! that's why Motorola Q - which has full QWERTY keyboard - will be able to do it without T9. Each major company, including Nokia, is releasing "Blackberry lookalike" (one or more) and for Motorola the Q will be too important (to combat Blackberry) to screw it up.

Nope - guess again. They've already paid Microsoft their .net license fees to develop for the smartphone - why would they need to pay more to add functionality to an existing program? Silly.. |
