Download programs for your Pocket PC at Windows Marketplace.
... but reality is different: Microsoft redirects "Download" link - without agreement of developers - to web site of CNET where trial versions or freeware is being offered for download. In other words: CNET is getting money through advertisements on their website and thanks to Microsoft's wrong redirection: instead of using websites of individual developers, Microsoft redirects to website of CNET with downloads. In this way Microsoft strips small developers of advertising that they have on their websites. |
First, where does Microsoft say "Download programs for your Pocket PC at Windows Marketplace"? That link you gave didn't say that. But, even if they do say that somewhere, so what? Many download sites direct you to mirrors when you actually try to download a program.
Second, where is there any "redirection"? The items listed at the link you gave clearly state "At CNET Download.com". That doesn't sound like the trickery you're implying.
Third, have you considered that maybe developers don't want that traffic? That traffic could increase their hosting costs. And how many developers' sites have ads (which could link to competing products)?
Fourth, how is this "incompetence" by Microsoft?
Fifth, if we're discussing freeware, why did you need to mention FairDeal? They withhold the same amount on freeware as any of the other sites do -- nothing. Was it just to get your weekly slap at Handango?
Finally, didn't I see this story published before? That headline really seems familiar. Are you doing reruns for the holiday season?
