Samsung i830 has the same problem as Samsung i300: having fantastic features but being powered by outdated operating system (Windows Mobile 2003 instead of contemporary Windows Mobile 5.0):
For some people ho...

I've said it before... I will never buy another Samsung product again.
Unlike HP and Toshiba where they decide to cut off their customer service and deny upgrade paths for their devices which are clearly capable of accepting it, Samsung goes a step further and releases devices that are clearly outdated from the getgo.
Samsung SPH-i700 Pocket PC Phone Edition for Verizon Wireless
Verizon Wireless and Samsung burned many bridges with the SPH-i700 community. A power Pocket PC device then, offering 1xRTT and even a swiveling camera, it was screaming for videoconferencing capability. Samsung adamantly denied any access to the camera and taunted us with a Asian successor to the i700 which Verizon would never get. Even the Microsoft Portrait team would never get API access to the camera to this day. On top of that, a long overdue upgrade to Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition came too little, too late for many owners who were fed up with waiting, while those who finally received it still had issues that weren't even addressed. Samsung blamed Verizon Wireless for the upgrade delay, Verizon Wireless blamed Samsung. Who provided the upgrade? Smith Micro?!
Samsung Napster YP-910GS
Samsung teamed up with Napster a while later and released what appeared to be a possible iPod killer back then. The YEPP YP-910GS was a powerful, 20GB USB 2.0 media player that touted WMA and MP3 capabilities, FM radio with MP3 recording and an integrated FM transmitter! I owned the device and sold it within a week after finding out that even though it could physically hold 10,000 WMA songs, the firmware was limited to only accessing the first 1,999. Only two thousand out of a possible ten thousand. Even at MP3 128K format, you can hold 5,000 songs, but you'll never see the latter 3,000. The player may actually freeze up completely if you go over the 2,000 songs, then reboot. The FM transmitter would only send out at distance of 1 foot with mediocre clarity, and was limited to just a few frequencies. Only 25% of the USB 2.0 speed was available. No DC adapter for the car. After contacting Samsung, their response was no firmware update was planned except for a successor device, no DC adapter was planned, and they are "aware" of the limitation, but that's a database issue that is not going to be addressed. Also, not only was the USB 2.0 throughput cut 75%, it had to update their paltry database with each file uploaded, further reducing the data transfer time. And neither Napster nor Samsung had detailed information about this device, let alone any support for it. Again, Samsung stated that Napster would provide firmware upgrades, if any, and Napster stated that it's a Samsung device, so they would provide any firmware upgrades or patches. Most customers' devices were rendered inoperable with the few, unexplained firmware versions scattered on the internet, and support remained non-existent. Support was a small circle of lost users who gathered in this tiny Expansys board under the YEPP 32MB Technical Support forum. You can still see my posts and even Samsung's pathetic responses there.
If Samsung doesn't care about innovation nor its customers, what's the point of existing? Samsung is no better than GPX or Coby when it comes to electronics. _________________ Bubble Buster Advanced

Wow - have you thought about seeking counseling for your issues with a faceless corporation? I, for one, have had good luck with Sumsung products and will continue to buy them. |

I agree and by the way: rumors that i730 will get upgrade to Windows Mobile 5.0 - appeared to be untrue!
Samsung is releasing sometimes good products - like D600 - but if they don't have all features from the beginning then one cannot count on softwre upgrades later... |
