This review comes from another strongly pro-Microsoft website - Neowin... and it even covers making video calls over UMTS cellular network!

Well that's no more new.
I have been using the Qtek 9000 since fall 2005 here in Austria.
Mobilkom Austria has pretty good 3G coverage here and videotelephony simply is cool with this device.
Sure it is bigger than a phone (and I wouldn't sell my "real" phone, an MS Smartphone of course but you cannot have everything at the same time: large display and ultra-small dimension.
Only thing I really miss with the Qtek 9000 is that is lacks EDGE.
My operator offers EDGE *country-wide* as fall-back technology where 3G is not yet available.
My "real" phone, Qtek 8300, does offer EDGE though (Why the 8300 and why not the 9000 I'm asking ???).
From my own experience I can only say that the speed improvement of EDGE vs. GPRS is significant !
Very bad also that the Qtek 9000 is not (hardware) upgradeable to HSDPA - Mobilkom Austria here just started the commercial roll-out of HSDPA... |

yeah, that's the problem now - you buy phone with EDGE and it lacks UMTS, then you buy UMTS and it lacks HSDPA...
personally I think that HSDPA (=fast UMTS) is only needed if you use it for notebook - for mobile phone usage UMTS is enough.
PS. I know that this review is not reviewing very fresh/new product, but I published this story nonetheless because HTC Universal is sold in so many versions by many operators and distributors... and probably people are interested. |

I agree. By the way, where's your famous "(yet another)" in the title? |
