Contrary to Skype, that is based on proprietary P2P technology (similar to the one in former Napster P2P), Woize is based on de facto industry standard in VoIP (Voice over IP) industr - SIP.

Interestingly process...

Wow this is great! I tested it over Wifi and the quality is acceptable (for a beta).
People tell me they hear my voice very clearly without interruption. Unfortunately the called parties voice got interrupted pretty frequently (every 10 sec) which makes conversations a little hard. But if I can use this to call when I'm on holidays, avoiding the absurd international roaming costs, it's good enough!

Even got a dutch phonenumber for only 3 euro with which I can receive local phone calls on my mobile for free!

I also tested it over an EDGE connection which unfortunately is too slow. In the beginning there is a 2 to 3 second delay and after about 10 seconds the connection gets pretty much lost.

I went on and tested the PC version connected to the same (fast) wifi network which had almost no lag and which doesn't have any interruptions. Hopefully they can optimize the smartphone version too to this quality level!

Interesting - they both have similar hardware requirements (arguably, Skype's are lower:

You sure Woize works on lower-level systems that Skype doesn't work on?

yes, because:

a) the nature of SIP that is less processor demanding

b) the version for MS Smartphone means that they tested it succesfully on MS Smartphone and all MS Smartphone devices have max 200 MHz

I wonder why Woize isn't so confident with their PPC-based phones?

probably their version for Pocket PC is older than the one for MS Smartphone - and that's the reason.

Anyway: one must test it in practice to say something. I know for sure only that 200 MHz is not fast enough for proper opereation of voice calls with Skype... and I know for sure that Skype requires more processing power than SIP.

Woize does not encrypt your conversation either which Skype does. Depending who you are that maybe very important. Encrypting supposively plays a part in processor demand also.
