Microsoft's push e-mail solution may be (almost) revoluationary becaue it cuts out all the middlemen (or rather middleware for which, users need to pay monthly fees - for example BlackBerry users):
... but a...

| What a shame - Microsoft rips off someone else's technology and can't even roll it out on time. Idiots. |

Well the facts of the matter are going to have people coming to conclusions. The fact that Microsoft hired ex Visto and Smartner staff some would put it stronger than that. The fact that direct push software was delayed from WM5 despite being one the the biggest and more important new features in it. The fact that whis happened after Visto filed patent infringment suits against Smartner. The fact the exchange server update was out last quarter and certain MS sources saying operators already received this WM5 update we still have no committment to a date when a WM5 device with direct push technology will be availble.
Clearly something is up with Microsoft, who probably have the largest availble funding, extremely talented staff and I kow a few, yet they severally lack innovation. |

a bit of a lie, huh?
Jason Landridge in particular should be ashamed.
What is most interesting is that the Symbian Phones work with Exchange 2003 sp2 to provide these features...so it must be something specific to WM5, huh... |

no, symbian phones (some of them) have MS Exchange sync possibility but it is only POLLING, they don't have PUSH EMAIL functionality - for this a special component in the mobile device is required. |

Microsofts so called direct push email solution is polling. The ActiveSync protocal has been licensed to Symbian last March and there are several solutions availble for push email from exchange server to symbian devices. |

New SP2 Features!
The RoadSync Technology Preview incorporates direct push synchronization and Remote Wipe capabilities which have been added in Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2). Please review the following descriptions for more information.
Push Synchronization
RoadSync utilizes direct Push technology based on Microsoft’s ActiveSync protocol, allowing you to keep all of your Outlook information up-to-date while on the go. Direct Push technology allows RoadSync to instantly receive updates from your Outlook account, and also send back updates in real time. Push requires an Exchange Server 2003 SP2 account with mobile access enabled.
Remote Wipe
Remote Wipe is an SP2 feature that allows IT administrators to remotely erase sensitive data from mobile devices that may have been stolen or lost. Once complete, the administrator receives an acknowledgement that the mobile devices information has successfully been wiped. The Remote Wipe feature is available through a web interface available to Exchange Administrators and any other users that the Administrator delegates this ability to.
System Requirements
Microsoft Exchange Server 2003
Data Plan through Mobile Carrier
Supported Symbian Smartphones:
Sony Ericsson P900 & P910, Motorola A1000
