Xda Atom is a very fascinating Pocket PC phone: it is the smallest Pocket PC phone in the world, it has built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, 2 megapixel camera and FM radio!
There is one problem though: Xda Atom is ava...

My god, HP is very talented. They took the lovely Atom and managed to make it so ugly I would never want to be seen carrying this thing around!

the same happened with iPAQ Pocket PCs that were beatiful when Compaq was producing them, but after HP took over iPAQ then all of a sudden they became ugly... |

It seems from the pictures that they have made a good product better. They have moved the green answer and the red hang up button to the bottom row and inserted "soft buttons". If they only also put a OK and a Windows button, the product would have been close to perfect!
VERY GOOD!
I care less about colour then function! |

Actually I like this design, and it seems that, unlike the O2 version, this will have soft keys - clearly an advantage for a Pocket PC phone of this size.
I also notice the appearance of a front facing camera, which could indicate 3G support.
On a side note, the EXIF data from the pictures tell that the creation software is Photoshop, which could indicate fake pictures - or at least that someone who have not actually taken the pictures have worked with it in Photoshop.
If this will have the same features as the O2 XDA Atom with added soft keys and 3G, this will be a pretty awesome phone featurewise and sizewise - let's hope the best and that they don't screw anything up. |

I thought it was a front-facing camera, but judging from the other pictures, it's the HP logo in the upper-left corner. The soft keys are a nice addition, but since it's right underneath the virtual soft keys on the touch-screen display, it's a little redundant, no? _________________ Bubble Buster Advanced

I was a little quick on the front-facing camera part - it obviously just is the HP logo when you look at the other pitures.
About the soft keys - isn't it more comfortable to use hardware keys than the touchscreen, even though there isn't much difference in the placement?
Also, if you're planning to use the screen cover, I would guess the soft keys are a pretty nice thing to have.
Also, there seems to be an extra button on both left and right side of the soft keys and the start/end call buttons - couldn't that be a Windows and an OK button like daro requested? |

Would it be safe to assume that if the device remains as triband, HP will make Quanta give it 850 MHz instead of 900 MHz for the US market? _________________ Bubble Buster Advanced

US market? HP hw6510 reached US market 6-7 months after Europe and I have seen people under NDA in USA although it was in Europe for several months already.
For me personally: no UMTS = no deal,
but for people who'd like to have small Pocket PC phone with FM radio this phone may be perfect but without 850 in USA = no chances. |

Its highly likely that the chassis is exactly the same as the XDA Atom, else why rebrand it. A better question is, will it still have the same music focus as the Atom. Will it still have the graphics equalizer, FM radio, media app etc. Removing the music keys makes me think everything else will go too. Afterwards all you have left is just another ppcphone.

the point is that it will NOT be exactly the same as Xda Atom - knowing how user unfriendly HP is I would guess that FM radio will be removed from feature set... but what Asian press wrote about this "HP rebranding Xda Atom" was that it will not be exactly the same but similar to Xda Atom... (but I already abandoned any hope that it will have UMTS) |
