In answer to the question "In not much more than 40 seconds after sending you are able to edit a word document on your mobile device! Sorry guys, but I have to ask this: Can your Palm do that? Or your Symbian phone?"
The answer is yes, there's no need to apologize. GoodLink has been out for years. mNotes from CommonTime too (for the poor folks forced to use Lotus Notes). As I recall, these apps don't require a ROM upgrade. And they work on Windows Mobile too.
I really don't see what all the fuss is about. MS are just catching up with what others have been doing for some time. Perhaps someone can explain? |

but tell me how you send a word document to a palm, open and edit it. oh, please don't ask "who needs that", there are enough people out there who - at least - want to be able to...

A word document is just a file and there are many ways to send any file type to a palm OS, including solutions from VISTO, Goodlink etc. All office related documents such as word, excel and power point can be not only viewed but edited with Quick office and there are loads of other such apps for Palm OS and Symbian etc. This functionality is not available on a Microsoft smartphone.
Infact RoadSync Technology already have a preview release of their product which uses the ActiveSync protocal. This product allows Symbian and Palm OS to use Microsoft so called direct push technology before Microsoft can. |

It's called Documents To Go and it comes with free with a Treo. You can open edit and email Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents. There are others available commercially too.
I notice that MS only just added the ability to work with PowerPoint to WM5. And even then, the Smartphone users get nothing.
This is sad. I'd like MS to make WM5 as good as it can be, but it seems they're not even trying. |
