"... so choose your equipment vendor carefully!" - that is the problem... not only do you need to guess what device will support it, but what carrier/provider will supply it... and when?
T-Mobile on HTC phones, Cinguluar on same? Verizon on the Treo 700W??
Without firm details - it's take your best guess at device and carrier, as to who will supple MSFP early. |

the only yardstick you can use is company track record on releasing updates.
i-mate are one of the best so if you buy an i-mate derivative you know that product support will be there. If there is a new ROM update, chances are i-mate will be one of the first to release it. Qtek have good support as well.
Others such as Voda, Orange, T-Mobile and O2 are all hit and miss. Trouble is if you want a contract phone you have to use them. I did but at least the O2 contract phones are now unlocked so I am free to put any other suppliers ROM on my HTC Wizard. As soon as the i-mate ROM gets released I will load that on. |

It makes no difference whether a device is [sim] locked or unlocked. You can still use the ROMs from other vendors. Likewise installing another vendors ROM will not remove the sim-lock from your phone.
I have a simlocked T-Mobile MDA Pro running a mixture of the O2 XDA exec rom and the T-Mobile ROM.

I just managed to contact imate via their online support tool. I asked where the AKU2/MSSP updates were, after their CEO had stated they would be available from the 25th. The replies from imate are below.
Rick> Welcome to club i-mate support. My name is Rick, how can I help you?
mplep> Hi. Your CEO stated that support for AKU2/MFSP would be available from the 25th of this month. When can I expect the update for my KJAM please?
Rick> That was an approximate date and that should be out soon..
mplep> Can you please expand on that a little? please?...
Rick> of course
Rick> the ROM release should be out soon
Rick> We are still not sure yet of the final date
Rick> please do keep a regular check on our website in order to know when the ROM is available |
