Well, since I have measured the Hermes prototype at CeBIT myself I can say that it is NOT bigger than the Wizard which is 109x58x24mm (=1517mm³). The Hermes is 111x57x22mm (=1392mm³). Thats 8-9% less volume!!!
And it even feels thinner, the 22mm thickness are due only to protrusions at the top and bottom of the device. Where you hold the device (in the broad middle part) its only 21mm thick! Look what other observations I made about this device here: http://pdanews-de.blogspot.com/2006/03/cebit-2006-measuring-up-prototype.html
I also got news that Vodafone Germany will carry the Hermes as the VPA Compact III, with availability expected in June or July.
They also told me, that the HERMES will initially not be capable of using HSDPA, only through a later software update. Also look here: http://pdanews-de.blogspot.com/2006/03/cebit-2006-hermes-castrated-vodafone.html _________________ Digging up the juicy rumors and answering questions you never thought you had My Blog covers PDAs and smartphones from a decidedly german perspective.

VGA displays are too expensive and too power-hungry.
Regarding USB connector: I don't think that it is very important. I think that the wheel in this device is the most important. I was playing with this wheel and it seemed to look very well - like in BlackBerry... |

But the wheel didnt have a scrolling functionality in the built in applications like contacts. It just regulated the volume, pushing it in, didnt do anything, not eben close the volume bubble.
It did have a nice "feel" thats right. But if it only works the volume.... then who really cares? _________________ Digging up the juicy rumors and answering questions you never thought you had My Blog covers PDAs and smartphones from a decidedly german perspective.

I think that it is a matter of software - to convince the wheel to work fine in all applications - no big deal.
I really doubt that this wheel would have been there only for volume control... |

I'm waiting this device with great interest.
I hope that this device will be EDGE becase edge is a very important intermediate trasfer protocol between gprs and UMTS...
Very important feature on my opinion. |

A T-Mobile representative at CeBIT said it will, when asked about EDGE capable devices.
Curiously enough, he also claimed Vario (Wizard) DOESN'T support EDGE, which is a tad strange |

It certainly looks bigger than a Wizard to me.

what is this crap about VGA is too expensive and too power hungry? this is just bull! y cant any1 honor my dream and make a pocketpcPhone with VGA with EVDO or UMTS/HSDPA!
Dell is selling VGA pda and QVGA pda model with only 200$ difference!
and right now dell is having a sale, it' only 100buk more for a VGA pda compare to a QVGA pda!
average price for a QVGA pocketpcPHONE is around 499$. PEOPLE WILL PAY 200BUK MORE FOR A VGA POCKETPC-PHONE at 699$! and most people wanted a pocketpcPHONE *ALREADY* have one! and they will not upgrade to another QVGA pocketpcPHONE! but they WILL upgrade to a VGA pocketpcPHONE!, that including me! |
