Hasn't Microsoft proven their strategy of entering late and dominating? Let other's do all the ground work, innovation, marketing, etc. and then come in and dominate - That's what I expect from Microsoft, watching Windows take over, Xbox take over, WM 5.0 taking over slowly, etc.

Due to Microsoft's monopoly on the desktop this strategy might be the better gameplan...

A few years ago people thought it would be Dreamcast competing for the market with Sony PS1/PS2 - but look who's about to come out on top. XBOX.

Don't be concerned about Apple - with Intel chips in Mac's and Windows XP running on Macs, they're just a hardware maker now!

Palm had vast market share once and look what happened.

The problem with mp3 players is the lock-in to a file format. DRM was necessary to stop pirating but is also a convenient monopoly tool.

I don't see that there is room in the market for another portable games console. I had a PSP and sold it as there wasn't many games. It is hard to provide the 3D games experience people are used to on the move along with good battery life etc.

It's funny how Microsoft are now entering this market given one of their product managers said on TV that the PSP was yesterdays games on the move. Seems like the XBox mobile will be the same, only it will be yesterdays games on the move and a bit too late.
