Eh is this spyware? It asks me to close Firefox during the install for no reason.
If you look at the install log in C:\Program Files\AvantGo\install.log it did a lot of stuff and added tons to the registry. _________________ WiFiFoFum Pocket PC Wardriving

Actually looks like it adds a service to active sync to that when you sync it also syncs your avant gochannels. Cool I guess. _________________ WiFiFoFum Pocket PC Wardriving

yes, it does so! however please note that if you have Wi-Fi in your smartphone then you can synchronize over the air - without the use of PC. |

Huh? Microsoft Voice Command? |

Oh yeh I remember an avant client being on an ancient ipaq 5450 maybe...but yeh it does seem to download more data than an RSS reader does. _________________ WiFiFoFum Pocket PC Wardriving

I agree, when I got my MPX220 in Jan 2005 I emailed support and they merely pointed me to the their list of supported devices (PPC). I added myself to that article-id and learned about the beta a couple days ago.
I use other programs like Mobipocket and ISilo to sync documents and web pages to my phone. I don't really need to AvantGo, because as I remember and double-checked they give you just 2MB by default but gee, I can upgrade to 3MB, wow! I use Mobi and a mini-SD and I don't worry about the space limitation. They blew it *big time*, all they had to was retask their existing PocketPC client and I'd never gone anywhere else. |

I actually like that Avantgo finally came out with an SP client, and here's why...
1) The info that RSS readers typically obtain is usually very terse (short). And if an entry interests you, when you click the "Read More..." link in the RSS entry, it will usually try to bring you to a full desktop-size webpage of that story.....which is usually not very practical to view using PIE, and will take forever to download it using GPRS!
2) With Avantgo, managing/adding "channels" of your download list is easily done from your dekstop PC, not painfully using your smartphone keypad from within an RSS program on your SP.
So, what's the point of constantly being "teased" with a headline in an RSS listing, when it's really not practical to read the full story with PIE if it happens to interest you? _________________ -John Cody |

I agree. Avantgo is much more robust than any RSS reader I tried to replace it with while waiting. If you want the whole news story it is only a click away. Plus it is now an RSS reader! and if you want more memory then you can upgrade to 8 mb. I think the Avantgo could be better by also offering Podcast support but since it took so long for SP support then I cant see podcasts coming anytime soon. But Avantgo still does the best job as an RSS news reader, syncing custom web pages, and many more categories such as news, travel, auto, etc. |

Anyone try running the smartphone edition on a WM5 PPC? The current PPC version doesn't support WM5's soft keys. I have heard that other WM5 smartphone app do work on a full WM5 PPC. _________________ JNGold

no, but it has to work by definition: all MS Smartphone programs run in Pocket PC powered by Windows Mobile 5.0. |

Nope, no go. Full uninstall of my prior version of Avantgo, soft reset, then re-install smartphone edition, soft reset again. App refuses to open. _________________ JNGold
