All you need is: Centrino based notebook with Wi-Fi, a Windows Mobile phone or PDA Wi-Fi and with this combination you can bring down Wi-Fi networks because of error in Microsoft software!

I've had many problems with the Intel 2200BG centrino wireless card however not this particular problem since I don't use WPA - my network is open. My Sony Z1 with a 2100BG can't connect or even see some networks, where as my MacBook Pro and all my PDAs can connect fine. I have found that teh 2200BG can only really connect to networks on channel 11.
If the problem is to do with how WM5 devices make a new network adaptor and connect through that to active sync I'll be glad to see that feature dropped. Its really nasty and very slow to sync. I always switch devices back to serial mode instead of rndis where possible. Well on the Mac I have to anyway because Parallels doesn't support the WM5 network adaptor thing. _________________ WiFiFoFum Pocket PC Wardriving

the problem is about WPA encryption only so it doesn't matter for you.
regarding "network based model of ActiveSync in Windows Mobile 5"- it is another screw-up of Microsoft and similarly like "removal of ActiveSync over Wi-Fi" I don't think that Microsoft will come back to old solution - serial type of connection. This is sad that incompetent people at Microsoft made such wrong decision. I am wondering: what are all those MVPs (over 60 of them in Windows Mobile are) doing? Just saying "yes, sir!" to Microsoft. The situation is bad. I dunno what to do. Nothing comes through to Microsoft. |

| I'm not asking for a new way for a hacker to look into my only security, then take that and smash it. What I am asking is, are you involed with the third person, and the "wi-fi" connection, is it without intent trying to connect or is the person with connection the "wi-fi" connection trying to block the third person signal, are you going in and trying to change the connection or is it just the signal. |

Well these 2 posts seem to say the entire network is down which you could assume to mean their AP needs to be rebooted. But since they don't mention actually ever rebooting the AP we could also assume they just mean the connection on their indivdual laptop isn't working. Who knows how many wireless devices are on their network. Its highly likely its just one. So avioding Intel wireless is probably all that is required to avoid this issue, which is good advice anyway, unless they use Linux.

Hi all,
Not sure if this was ever resolved, but I have found a very easy solution which has worked for me.
On my WM5 phome (MDA Vario II) I go into settings and then the connections tab.
Choose the USB to PC icon (hopefully you will have one) In there, uncheck Enable advanced network functionality.
This had no affect to Activesync via USB. I have not tested BT sync yet.
It has however completey cured the wifi issue and WPA/TKIP is still running.
Hope this works for you. _________________ Andy Rowley |
