Hi Lutzh,

You're so lucky and awesome review!!! I have a Qtek 8500 right now but I'm eyeing the MTeoR for my next device (3G). Wink

baaaahhhh, always the same stupid bullshit here!

TELL ME WHAT ACTION YOU WANT TO SEE? HOW I CALL PEOPLE? HOW I SURF THE WEB? WHAT FOR? DOESN'T THE SURF SPEED MAINLY BELONG IN WHERE YOU ARE, HOW THE 3G COVERAGE IS THERE AND WHAT YOU DO WITH IT? WHAT WOULD THAT HELP YOU IF I CHECK THAT HERE IN MUNICH?????

if you need technical information, like 3g speed or what ever it is, see the flyer that is linked in the picture review. people like you, 5HT2A, are disappointing.

please let me exactly know what you've expected!

cheers, lutz

lutzh,check this out:
I(like many others) have waited for a 3G SP for a long long time.I wanted facts, not pictures that i have already seen somewhere else.
1)because this is the first 3G smartphone in the world, people were waiting for more details on this matter, the major details were already known(technical specs, pictures etc),presented here and on other wm sites.you mentioned nothing ,nada, zero in your article about 3G.
2)i wanted to read more about how this jewel works on a UMTS network, how you handle it....there is no front camera, you have to turn it backwards to place a video call,is this annoying or what?
any drop calls?any annoying sounds while calling?how 'bout its multitasking talents?
3)nothing mentioned about the standby, when used in 3G mode....on pocketinfo.tv mentioned the poor standby....how poor is the standby actually ?again nothing mentioned.

i had more expectations from the first review signed by msmobiles.

lutzh,if you want to become a good news-editor,put yourself in the place of the reader, who's eager to know everything that is to know about a worldwide premiere. You are on the right way,but still have to practice.

You can surely call this device "high-end" (and I would do that as well).

I'm not trying to deminish its features or speculate about performance, but there are - unfortunately - 3 reasons preventing me from buying it:

1. No WLAN:
This is really very bad and the reason why HTC decided on it is not understandable for me (I speculate that large mobile operators might have had objectons against competing technologies bypassing 3G/GPRS on some occasions)

2. Micro SD:
I have several high-end Mini-SD Cards which would then become not useless but superfluous (ok can use them with an adapter in my digicam, but wouldn't have bought an expensive 2GB MiniSD for that). Also no 2GB MicroSd available.

3. 1.3mpx cam instead ofstate-of the art 2mpx
2mpx are in most current Nokia devices and with 2mpx you can really make fairly usable shots

I think HTCs successor will contain these features again and I wll then be glad to get it myself.

great review, thx. But where is the camera for videocalls on the front right side of mobile ? In the review of Qtek 8600 on Mobinaute was here, but on the HTC MTeoR isn't here.

Camera for videocalls, but where is on the MTeor ? Smile

jerrry - this is indeed amazing !

Hasn't there also been an other HTC model, where one make included WLAN and the other didn't ?

I can though imagine, why a mobile operator (or group) would object against WLAN in a mobile they are going to subsidize.

I can however NOT imagine what reason there could be for omitting videotelephony other than offering a cheper model without and a high-end (and more expensive) model with videotelephony.

Agreed: videotelephony still did not prove to be a killer application (for the opcos); on the other hand the retail price for this device is quite high and other comparable models (e.g. Nokia) do include videotelephony.

How would consumers react if a new car model is advertized including air-conditioning and in the end it does not include air-conditioning but the price remains the same ?
(I suppose even residents from Sweden, where it is usually not unbearably hot, would feel screwed in this case.)

Lutz, do you know anything about the retail price of the model you tested ? I guess you intend to buy it for yourself (or maybe you got it for free Wink

Hi Lutz..

The Meteor is larger than c500, but is that a problem in everyday use?
I normally carry my phone in the pocket of my jeans.

Best regards
Jakob

hi jacob

i do the same and it is absolutely no problem. also the mteor is heavier than the c500, but i clearly can say that it is built much more solid and feels very good laying in the hand.

@ all: if you would come here a little more often you would have already known that the mteor does not have the camera on the front and does not allow video calls. msmobiles already wrote about it and also wrote about the reasons why that is: htc was not happy with the quality of the videocalls, it did not match their own quality standards, thats why they've changed the device last minute and don't deliver it with the front camera. i have to say that i prefer this instead of having something that doesn't work correctly. also i am asking you if it is really something that you may miss - seeing your caller on an stamp sized image is not what i see as an killer feature as well as more and more carriers find out that video calling is no killer feature and don't request that from the manufacturers that heavy as they did 1 or 2 years ago...

cheers, lutz

let's look at the good part: at least htc managed to come up with a solid design and really small dimensions for a 3G machine.
this probably means that the next 3G SP will have videocall and will be a little bit smaller...

Your views are quite different from those expressed by the owner of this website. Apparently not having a front facing camera on a 3G phone is unforgivable. Smile

"June 14, 2004" - looks like his view is some days old??? PLUS it doesn't matter to me, what he thinks, i know what i want and i know that carriers don't care anymore.

hi beecher

i am from munich/bavaria/germany. if you talk about the tower on this picture http://x.msmobiles.com/lh/images/mteor/cam3.jpg it's the olympia tower in munich, next to the olympia stadium.

if you talk about this picture http://x.msmobiles.com/lh/images/mteor/cam2.jpg it's a suicide fly that wants to attack the o2 building Smile

cheers, lutz
