Sometimes something simple can be a great utility! It's wasn't really simple either -- we had to figure out a lot of low-level hardware controls that are not documented to get the flash to turn on -- there's no W...

Pocket flashlight is an example of a program being developed "just because you can" not because you should. It takes just as many menu choices to get the light up and running whether you use Pocket Flashlight or the built in camera program. As for using the screen as a light - you can do that already with almost any program running a light-colored screen. Finally, while the Morse Code routine is clever, the range it might be seen (a couple dozen feet) coupled with the few folks with actual morse code skills makes this the epitome of who-cares development.
In short, Pocket Flashlight is a well written, tightly coded, easy to use program that no one needs. Hopefully the author will take his seemingly solid skills and put them to good use on his next project. |

I respectfully disagree. To turn the camera flash on right now, you need to hold down the camera button two seconds, wait another three seconds before it loads, then go to Menu > Flash > On. To turn it off, again, Menu > Flash > Off. With Pocket Light, you can assign a speed dial and always have access to a flashlight. The Auto On feature was designed for just this in mind and turns the flashlight on as soon as the app loads. Turning off the flash is again just one more button click. Since it does not use your camera at the same time, you are also saving battery time. I personally always need to have a flashlight around so it's a great convenience. Even if you don't, it's great to have around in case of emergency -- and beyond the convenience, at least you won't eat up the battery time.
This IS my first Windows Mobile application and I do look forward to sharing many more create products in the future.
Thanks for trying it out!

who are you to claim that no one needs this program? Clearly since several people have downloaded this program, somebody needs it. I personally too use sometimes Windows Mobile phones as light in the darkness... |

Respectfully, I hold the (built-in, dedicated) camera button for ~2 seconds and my flash comes on immediately, followed 2 seconds later by the camera screen. With your program you would also have to hold the speed dial for 2 seconds for it to launch. I fail to see a difference except my method uses a dedicated key and your method takes up a speed dial key.
To close, I either press-hold the action button to bring up xBar3 to immediately kill the camera and flash (like I would do with your program) or I would press Menu-->Up-->Action to close the camera (as I would your program).
Can you give me a definitive answer as to how much battery I would be saving with my emergency flashlight if I used your software over the already built-in, one-button-accessible flash light?
Your programming talents are recognizably polished and so I look forward to your next program.

I downloaded the program myself (which apparently you did not) - because I downloaded it you presume I support it? Hmmm. Who am I to claim? I'm not "claiming" anything. I'm merely stating the program offers no additional functionality to the Q and arguably adds no convenience either (well except for that morse code part). No one needs it. It doesn't mean someone won't want to buy it.
Now, if the author puts his talents to the task of creating a utility to conveniently turn the Q's Bluetooth radio on and off - he can have the contents of my wallet. |

dear kupe, I also consider this "candle" or "light" programs to be oversimplistic bunch of unusable things but everything is a matter of taste. Example: I consider video calling to be an important feature in mobile phones but some other people call it "totally useless". The bottom line is, kupe, this: should I not post news item about this program or is it good/OK that I posted this news item? Tell me! |

in case some pocketpc users are looking at this and wanting the same functionality, you can get it with a free app by vijay:
http://vijay555.com/?Releases:VJCandela
it works with HTC WM5 pocketpcs.
without it, you have to open the camera app and press the icon for the light to come on. i have it bound to one of my hardware buttons on my 6700 (htc apache) and so to turn on the flashlight, i just turn the phone on and press the button. then i can press the button again to turn it off.
this app has turned my phone into a very useful flashlight which has helped me in many situations.

You can post whatever you want to on your site. For some reason, my disagreeing with your apparent love of this program has upset you. Are you trying to say only YOU are allowed to have an opinion on this site? Tell me! |

| My PPC-6700 can do that without the use of a third party program. Turn on the camera and then the flash. Instant flashlight! |

lol you must not have read my post about half a page up...how is that instant? it takes 3-5 seconds for the camera app to load and then you have to use the stylus or a fingernail to click the little flash icon...with vijay's program, as i stated, it comes on about half a second after you hit the hardware button/run the program.
