Wow this was alot of fun. I saw QR codes all over the place when I was in Japan - even the conference I was at used them in each page of the proceedings. Perhaps they will take off in the UK too as they are alot of fun. With that app you can even scan an SMS QR code - so you type the phone number and message for the SMS in the code making website - point your phone at it and it sends the message - so cool!
I posted on my blog about this and have some pics of it running:

Just got the Dopod S300 to replace my Motorola MPx220. Quickmark software is bundled into the phone. I have not used it before. Just tried it to read the code on this frontpage.
Man, I'm amazed at its reading speed. About 2 seconds to read.
Cheers,

The COOLEST application I have seen since the invention of SMS !!!*
Maximum fun factor as well as maximum usability at the same time.
The operators could make a lot of money with it while - at the same time - save the need to "explain" to the consuming masses the advantages of the data services.
These are here simply visible to anybody.
Worked like a charm with my Qtek 8300.
Why only are these utilities just available in Japanese ?
Couldn't find any possibility to translate the Japanese menue at least for my private needs.
Does anybody happen to know if the inventing company is planning to release a client with English menues (though the functionality isn't affected only the optic impression) ?
*Remark:
I deliberately did not say "since the invention of MMS". For many reasons MMS is not as cool as it could be. I think I need not explain that here in details. |

In Asia newspapers and magazines print these codes so these codes are popular - that's why not in English... |
