Maybe Microsoft employees should restrain themselves from evaluating independent software vendors...

Thanks so much for linking to this story and I really appreciate your comments. I agree that the study would have been much more comprehensive if it included data from the other distribution partners beyond just Handango.
In this study, we just wanted a snapshot of the developer community and the top ISVs-- this was a report that specifically looked at Handango's top developers and those top of mind in community sites. We chose Handango as the basis for the study because they openly publish developer statistics in the form of their quarterly yardstick. To my knowledge, Motricity doesn't do this as concisely.
If we choose to do a more comprehensive study in the future, I would love to hear your suggestions on what and where the data should be aggregated from. Thanks again, I think you make a great argument and we'd love to make this better the next time around. |

Derek, thanks for commenting but please note that situation is a bit more complex than your "taking snapshot" thingy. I was going to various trade shows as accredited journalist and I was chatting both with Handango and with Motricity people and also I know many developers. One is certain: Handango is not quite nice company and you should be careful....
BTW: Derek maybe you, as MS employee, could nominate me for Windows Mobile MVP award? I could then offer suggestions much more effectively |

The Handango list itself is not representative completely.
We at AIM had our strippoker on Handango on number 1 best selling for more then 1.5 year, then Handango wanted to grow and no longer showed adult content in the top 10 list, next step was people visiting their main store (US customers) would no longer see the adult titles in a search, and now almost all sub sites no longer show our tiltes on a search. Therefore killing our revenue. So be aware that if you have a list from Handango stating top selling, it excludes the adult titles... how representative can this be. |
