in my testing of skype 2.0 over Sprint's EV-DO network i found it to be unsatisfactory...i will test again soon using this new 2.1 version...

i used my sprint ppc 6700 (htc apache, 416 mhz xscale). it worked fine with wifi. on evdo i found that usually the incoming sound was fine but the person on the other side had a hard time consistently hearing me...this was regardless of whether or not i had used pocket hack master to overclock to 624 mhz or not.

my conclusion was that current EVDO Rev 0 does not have enough bandwidth on the upload side to support a consistent connection with skype. furthermore, it does not have a stable enough connection for the overall skype call to be of good enough quality. it may work, but not predictably or sufficiently without wifi.

i don't know if this bandwidth issue is the case with UMTS or HSDPA but i imagine it's worse with EDGE and will be much better when EVDO Rev A comes out.

Some networks insert a 200ms delay into their 3G data traffic to prevent Skype from working. It is not noticable on regular internet browsing, ubt will affect Skype or other SIP services. This is actually illegal in some countries, like Australia, but the networks do it regardless to try and maintain voice revenues.

If your network doesn;t want you to run Skype on 3G then Wi-Fi is your only option.
