Most web hosting companies, that were offering Microsoft Exchange hosting have already applied latest patch and they offer Microsoft's push email for their Exchange accounts... but users couldn't be bothered. User...

It may not be a large commercial success and it has its flaws, but I really dig the new MS push. We use exchange where I work and on my Samsung i320 it works perfectly. I would shudder in fear at the thought of having to use a blackberry. ewwww *shudder* |

I agree... and that's one reason why the SideKick is so popular. You get push email and IM with no hassle of a complicated Exchange account. If you're not a corporate user and you want to buy an Exchange email account it costs at least $7 a month (compared to free on gmail) so it's a hard sell for non-business users.

"Clearly" is typically used to make really opinionated speculation sound more like fact.
I only return to this site for the facts, clearly not for the non-existant journalistic integrity. |

Wow how come .. a microsoft critical posting here? Maybe only because the invite only storys ?
Well to get not offtopic. Using MS Push since 2 Months - not a single problem with Exchange 2007 or the mobile end. Only downside is bat drain. |

There are many Microsoft criticial stories on msmobiles.com - spread in time equally.
This story is supported by opinion of Om Malik, who is a guy who is being listened in USA. If Om Malik that Microsoft's push email is bad and is breaking up, then it doesn't matter what other regular users say.
So it is not just my invention but clearly some people have issues with Microsoft's push email. |

The problem with MS Push mail is that it actually is Pull mail! Your device keep checking the Exchange Server for new items, some report as often as every 2 minutes. This puts a drain on the phone bill since data costs money, and it kills the battery in no time!
On the earlier ROM version for my WM5 device the old technology was used, where the Exchange Server send an email-to-sms message to the device in order for it to connect, whenever something new arrived. That worked perfectly. Now the new ROM upgrades include the 'real' MS push technology, which means that my device is in constant connection with the Exchange server. This costs a few US$ each day and drains up to 40-50% EXTRA battery power every single day!
So now I have given up on using the Push technology and instead I just have my device check the server every 60 minutes. Way to make a push solution, MS! |

My girlfriend got BB
I got Exchange + "push"
My girlfriend loves the features in my TyTN and would love to change. Her mail is a lot slower to apear on hear BB than mine is on my TyTN.
What is push/pull - well does it really matter? Microsoft is psudo push and so is BB. They both have small keep alive packs between client and server - and who initiates them does not really matter. The amount of data is about 30% higher on ms than on BB but i dont really care.
On BB I got limited choices of phones - that is not the case on MS Platform.
Most people i know with their own business have moved to a MS Exchange (Small Business) platform, with pushmail - and they love it.
I'm not a microsoft fan - but i'd take a device with Exchange sync any day compared to BB or 3rd party sync solutions. My Exchange sync have never let me down - and have never been down for the past 8 months now. |

Come on... I use push e-mail since my company got the first beta ROMs from Vodafone UK and it works perfectly. If I'm sitting in front of my laptop with Outlook open and a new mail arrives on my company's Exchange, often I will get the notification first on my Windows Mobile device and then on my laptop.
About the push/pull thing, I'm using an AKU 2.0 ROM and it does keep GPRS connected all the time, but it doesn't poll Exchange. It still uses the notification mechanism from the server to know when to synchronize.
You have to remember also that AKU 2 hasn't delivered only push e-mail, but it pushes calendar, tasks and contacts as well, and you can even browse your global address list. Now that I have used it for months, I couldn't live without it. |

@kaz911
Well, check your service provider. Many charge data per 10 KB, so this small chit-chat between PDA and server can be very expensive. It is to me, and I doubt I am the only one on the planet with this problem.
Other than that, I rather consider myself pro-MS. I would never switch to another platform for my mobile device. MS have got to realize that their current solution is cr@p and something has GOT to change. The old solution was SO much better!
@tehdarkstar
I was perfectly happy with AKU 2.0 too, but unless you wanna keep that old ROM for the rest of your life, you have to move on. That is what I did, and now 'push' email is a thing of the past for me.

Wait 10-15 minutes please, and then edit it. This delay is set to give some time for people to calm down... and to prevent robots from sp@mming. |

Hehe. That is actually rather funny
Except I don't think it's a good idea to prevent editing, since it won't help a bit. Most likely, it will rather prevent people from editing their postings AFTER they have calmed down. Posting (not editing) is quite another story. But what do I know... |

Free MS Exchange account with OWA and push.
Let people see for themselves it's stable, and fast.
This article is only right in stating it's not as popular as Blackberry, everything else is a load of crap. |
