Only a few people need 3G? Are you crazy?
Having experience surfing the web on a GPRS-only Smartphone I can tell you that it's a painful experience. Downloading e-mail attachments over GPRS? Forget it, it's useless.
The whole idea over smartphones (over regular PDAs) is that they're connected devices. 3G speeds really unlock the power and benefit owning of a smartphone. Infact I'm writing this now on my Vario II. Your main page is around 1.5MB in size and that would take a good few minutes to download over GPRS. Useless! |

Few genuinely require 3G to make it through the day. Which is why all major carriers are rolling out TV-viewing entertainment services over 3G, to grab the consumer mass-market and to pay for the carrier's investments in 3G. One person's 'critical need' is not the same as another's. |
