We were the first to notice - several years ago - that Handango is a vile company and not only delivers bad service to end users, but also is unfair to developers by paying them the smallest share - Handango takes t...

Sounds about right. I have to say that the bloke did myther the hell out of Handigo tho...

Free stuff rarely comes with any kind of contract, and rarely lasts forever. I suspect they got fed up with answering emails and pulled the plug.

They are a law unto their own, and will do as they please. Bad news and unfair on the developer, but I am sure he will find another network to flog his software through.

I am a customer of Omnisoft and a former member of Handango (unless they amend this issue). Omnisoft Alerts! has been hands down the best and most used software I have purchased for my smartphone and Omnisoft has the best customer service of any company with which I have had dealings.

See this post - http://www.omnisoft.com/articles/handango/default.asp - for detailed information. It appears that Omnisoft won a raffle with a prize of $5000.00 worth of free advertising. He was not advised that there was a time limit. Then Handango advised him of the time limit with only a few months left. Then when Handango couldn't be bothered to work with the developer to post the advertisement they not only canceled his prize... THEY CLOSED HIS ACCOUNT!!

As long as the Omnisoft account is closed I recommend that everyone avoid purchasing software from Handango for false business practices.

Just ponder on how you would feel if you advertised with a company for six years, won a raffle, and the company to keep from fulfilling its promise cancelled your account and livelihood!!

Hey all-

My name is Will Pinnell, and I am the Senior Director of Content at Handango. In light of the recent posts about Handango seen on msmobiles.com, I wanted to provide an update. I visited Omnisoft's site myself last week and read the available thread between John and members of our team. I also spoke with him on the phone.

I'd like to assure you that Handango does not discontinue partnerships without cause, nor did we come to this decision lightly. In my nearly seven years at Handango, I've served as an advocate for small developers and appreciate the passion shown in your posts. As a standard business practice, we strive to ensure productive and successful relationships with all our thousands of content provider partners. Without divulging specifics to the community, our collective decision to not distribute Omnisoft's content was based on additional information not publicly shared.

I do admire John Cody's drive to make customers aware of his applications and wish him the best of luck in the future. Although we stand by our decision to not distribute his company’s content at this time, we have issued a payment to Omnisoft in the amount of the remaining marketing credit.

Thank you for your continued enthusiasm about the smartphone content space. We look forward to continuously improving our communications with our valued customers and content provider community.

As I understand it, this payment represents a change in Handango's position. It is good to see that Handango are listening to the community and are clearly concerned about this mess.

It is even better to see that when we all stand up for each other we can make corporations worry. It would appear that the Handango Boycott is having a significant effect - phatware's comment

indeed, we've noticed drop in sales when this issue has been escalated.
suggests the boycott is working well ( http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=52074&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=20 ) - although I would note that PhatWare don't deserve to suffer as a result of all this.

Anyway, my personal take-it-or-leave-it offer to Handango was this. If you give John Cody the chance to get back on board, I'll go back to buying from your site. They haven't made such an offer so I still won't be buyign frmo them.

I don't claim to speak for the community but I humbly suggest that, if anything, we need to strengthen our resolve against Handango as it is clearly having the desired effect...

Too little too late, Will. We'd be interested in hearing your claimed "additional information not publicly shared" - I'm sure it will show your company in a favorable light. Wink

It's nice to see people joining together to prevent oppressive corporate behavior from going on unchecked.

Kudos to you John and to all that have supported you. I wish you well in your future developing endevours.

I think it's funny how Handango admits their guilt in this matter by trying to buy off Cody's silence with cash in lieu of advertising space. What a bunch of putzes. First, they boot the guy, then they post some pointless drivel in this thread, then they cave in. Laughable. Looks like no one's in charge there.

Yea, either no one is in charge or whoever is in charge is so used to treating customers and developers oppressively that when the time came for them to act otherwise they completely screwed it up from lack of experience.
