I think that with the control of UIQ, SE can know add many evolution to the Symbian platform witout helping Nokia!! So with this, SE can now compete with Nokia without the fear to see all what he do automaticaly given to Nokia,

I think that SE has made a good choice,

How can you tell that Symbian is better, if there is only a few apps compared to WM? Just browse handango.com and look the FACT:
-Windows Mobile PocketPC: 12996 apps
-PalmOS (can run under WM via true emulation!): 10992 apps
-Symbian (both uiq an others): 6793 apps

conclusion: more than 24000 WM apps available vs 6793 Simbian apps...That is the reality.

whole situation shows how untrustworthy, fragmented and unstable whole Symbian is!

You cannot possibly mean this. When one company has over 80% of market share and in practise has all control over sone operating system how on earth can that operating system be unstable and fragmented? How does Windows Mobile differ from Symbian? Microsoft has all control over it and it is not very widely used outside USA. This is unstable if something.

UIQ is for Symbian like Pocket PC is for Windows Mobile. The only difference is that UIQ is not anymore owned by Symbian. It is still a UI and API layer over the operating system core. That does not make S60 unstable. And S60 is what really matters. Symbian and S60 are synonyms.

UIQ's success has nothing to do with the success of S60/Symbian. If UIQ will be ported to Linux, who cares? But I really hope it will never be ported to Windows Mobile. It would be then Windows Mobile, which would get fragmented. It would be very bad for Microsoft. If SE replaces UIQ with Pocket PC that certainly strenghtens the Windows Mobile position.

As much as you want to make Symbian to look weak you cannot succeed. Symbian development tools and APIs are stone aged, but it's a fact that the operating system is more robust than Windows CE and consumes less battery. It's a small miracle that HTC and Samsung have been able to do so good phones when the operating system itself is so power hungry.

this one company is Nokia not Symbian - a mere puppet of Nokia.

Nokia dominates market so much that Sony Ericsson is angry. Very angry.

Of course it is fragmented if UIQ and S60 and some other strange Symbian variants like the one in communicators must compete with each other. If Symbian is so stable then why Nokia uses Windows CE (on which Windows Mobile is built) in Nokia 330 navigation device and not Symbian?

So angry they are implanting laptop bombs into nearly every brand of laptop and calling them "batteries" to get OEMs to buy them! Laughing

I dont care that much about the OS - the device should manage the things I need.

With my current MS I always have the problem that the device gets slower and slower after each program I open - its unacceptable that u have to get through 3-4 menus in order to close the old tasks. I don't consider this as the best an OS can do. Until now I had the impression that Symbian is like the Palm OS: stable, fast and user friendly.

However I still have a MS-Phone and currently have the next one on order but I hope for the future development. In fact I guess that MS will copy a lot of things from its rivals (again) Wink.
