|
|
I've been eyeing up this phone for what seems like forever (since HTC announced it in the summer) as the device to pull me away from my trusty but non-3G Treo 650.
But I'm having second thoughts, now. The HTC P3600 (aka Trinity) is smaller, but has no keyboard. My biggest problem with the Treo has been size. A smaller device would be great. But will the lack of keyboard be a problem? I definitely do more IM, text and email than talking.
Does anyone have experience of making a similar switch? |

Intel 520 MHz is roughly the same speed as Samsung 400 MHz that this phone features. |

yes, you are a kind of guy that needs keyboard. Remember: Treo 750v is coming to USA this year yet too, but it has no Wi-Fi. |

Ah - so it is one of the most powerful phones available today - along with the i730 and i830. _________________ good titles are misleading!

It's very true. But will I want to trade-off a keyboard for a more comfy pocket experience (I only wear the holster thing at work, it's too spaz to wear outside)? How annoying is screen-based input on WM5? Before I got into the keyboard thing with the Treos 180 and 650, I used to be pretty fast at writing Graffiti 1 on a Palm. Is it really really worth putting up with the extra bulk to have the keyboard?
As for Windows Treos: sadly there's no GSM Treo (WM5 or Palm) that supports 3G data. So it's got to be the Cingular 8525 or forking out full-price for a HTC P3600. With 3G data I think wi-fi is redundant, but since it's in there, I may use it now and then.
Any more advice to help me make up my mind? |

Um, dude, you don't know that the Treo 750v supports UMTS and is upgradable to HSDPA? _________________ JNGold

|

For those who say that this is the most powerful phone, I have an O2 Xda Exec that says different. That whole deal about the Samsung processor is all speculation (in my opinion). And if you really want to get technical: these newer WM5 devices do not run half as effeciantly as the WM 2003SE devices which used flash memory. My old PPC 6600 (also known as (I-Mate PDA 2k, amongst other things) only had about a 300MHz prcessor but the fact that it used flash memory allowed it to run circles arount by 520MHz Xda. I guess we have compramised speed for reliability.
Please correct me if you find any part of this post to be inaccurate.

In what respect? I know for sure that devices who used flash memory run way several times more efficiantly, opposed to using the ROM as RAM ideology of WM5.
Please let me know if I am mistaken. This is in no way the most powerful device. |

by "powerful" I was meaning not just processor but also features, that include genuine wheel and HSDPA (fast UMTS)! Not many phones support HSDPA yet! |

|
|
I currently have a Sprint PPC 6700. Although the device is pretty good when it works, the network availability has been poor. I am considering changing to Cingular and the 8525. Also considering Verizon, but they haven't reached my town yet (20 miles away).
But, I would really prefer a device with the 8525 features minus a slide out keyboard. - Makes the device smaller and I prefer the onscreen keyboard with stylus.
Any suggestions for a device that fits this description available now or in the near future? Am I naive in being irked that service shows EVO and 4 bars one minute and Roaming with no bars a few minutes later in the same location? Are all providers this variable? |

I recommend HTC Trinity - a Keyboard-less Pocket PC phone that has PDA.
Regarding various indications in the same place - yes it happens when network saturates for example. |

| Thank you. I will check into the Trinity and see if Cingular offers it here. |

and it is HSDPA , not "PDA" as I said by mistake
personally I need to have QWERTY keyboard with single handed usage but I know that many people are happy with touchscreen-only solution - I can understand them because having touch screen is my 2nd "must have" feature |
