Officially it is 13.5 mm thin but our measurements show a bit more:

... but nonetheless it is a very impressive ultra-slim phone! Read on!

If your AP is set to G-only how do you explain that in the wireless manager it shows a txrate of "1" when the lowest possible txrate on 802.11g is "6" ?

I'm not saying that the device doesn't support G, but i think your setup is broken somewhere...

The Loox T830 is almost twice as expensive ?? I don't think so.

The 5O1 is £300 on expansys. The Loox is £499. Elsewhere the Loox can be found on sale for £440. That's not 100% more expensive but 47% more.

Is a Loox worth the additional £140?? Yeah it is. 3G, GPS, 3.5mm phones jack, jog wheel, fast processor, Bluetooth 2, Broadcom (and not m$ BT stack), ability to take 8gig SD memory cards, rock solid build quality,

I know, I purchased a Loox last week. The screen is not an issue. It is very clear and well defined. All my software works in 240x240. I mean TOM TOM Nav 6 and even Slingplayer Mobile. Yeah, Slingplayer works very well over a 3G connection. You won't get that performance on boring old 2G. Having a standard 3.5mm phones jack is a big deal. I can plug Sennheiser CX300's straight in and the sound quality just blows an iPod into oblivion.

The Loox T830 is an amazing machine AND everything on it works out of the box - no need to wait for ROM updates to fix bugs. Get it, you won't regret the decision.

BTW: on the box in which this phone is sold it is written that it supports 802.11g so it must have it, but question is how to test it well if you don't like my tests?

Correct it has no AKU3. But how many new devices do you know that after release all need a rom update to fix bugs. The T830 has no bugs.

The only rom update may be to provide AKU3, but there are no rumours yet.

Any one know when will the I-mate version comes out?

Dear Msmobiles > do you find any unstable data connection / hang up / call drop during your test? cause you haven't mention about that in your test.

I have been using one for 2 weeks, I had to replace the first one but that is because I believe Expansys HK gave me a used unit and the reception of the phone was bad. Here's my quick assessment:

1. Processor is a bit slow but acceptable. (Forget Skype)
2. System is quite stable. Of course there's occassional reboot like every other MS base OS. (Maybe after 2/3 days).
3. Keyboard is very good for quick emails and SMS.
4. You can use it single handedly 80% of the time.
5. Phone reception is very good on my end but I have people on the line that tell me that its choppy occassionally (especially with BT).
6. Lack bundle software (no backup utility, etc.)
7. Display is good, similar to Samsung i320, Moto Q or HTC S620. (I wish its 2.8")
8. Its solidly built and has very good looks.

I believe there is a bug on the WiFi software. I tested with my AP lock to G and its able to connect. Web browsing & email speed are non-issues.

I'm just wondering in the MS-Mobile test if you tried the BT. I'm getting some complains from people I talk to via the unit that there is loud background noise.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks bsee for the sharing of his experience with the phone.

I have a few more questions toward his experience, hope he can tell me the answers.

1. Processor is slow: have you try overclocking?
2. Is the occassional reboot happens on its own or you press the reset button to bring the phone back from malfunction?
3. how is the data transfer speed?
4. how is battery life?

Thanks!!

Great info guys!!! Much appreciated, anyone care to post a short/small video of the 501 in use? Appreciate it, thanks.

Regards........

P.S. Paul's review @ Modaco mentioned that i-mate will have version with the 850 band and that it will have a more rounded appearance.......

Helpme, See below:

1. Processor is slow: have you try overclocking?
No, how can I try it? Do I need to install any software? Please advice.

2. Is the occassional reboot happens on its own or you press the reset button to bring the phone back from malfunction?
It happens with every PPC I had. The OS does not really close the APPs and when you have run too many APPs, the system will freeze. This has been resolved by installing SPB PPC Plus which close most of the APPs when you clcik on the X button.

3. how is the data transfer speed?
WiFi, its ok! I only use it for downloading emails and reading PDA specific news feed from Yahoo.

4. how is battery life?
If you use it for phone and PDA, you can get around 40+hrs. If you enable WiFi & BT max is 1 day.

One more thing to add is that the camera quality is better than my old O2 XDA mini. I would attached a picture here but don't know how...
