HTC Cavalier is a 3G version of HTC Excalibur, i.e. similar external construction (including QWERTY keyboard) but equipped with more powerful components inside. The looks of HTC Cavalier have also been improved, str...

Maybe in terms of a scroll wheel the Samsung i600 is better but this one has both WiFi and 3G as compared to only 3G for the Samsung. For me this is more important than a scroll wheel.

I have the T-Mobile Dash and I really like the Jog Dial. It works fine and the thought of no moving parts to collect dust or to fail later appeals to me.
The Samsung's D-Pad is poorly designed and I've seen and heard many complaints about that.
Wi-Fi is a big feature for me too. I choose the Excalibur over the Blackjack and the Excalibur doesn't have HSDPA. The Cavalier looks awesome but I wish they'd have release one device instead of two (Excalibur and Cavalier). Many bought or will buy the Excalibur.
I would like to state that HTC is the most daring and productive mobile phone manufacturer out there today. As a Windows Mobile snob, HTC has made my dreams come true time and time again...

i600 has WiFi, but the US version i607 BlackJack does not have. Let's see if Cavalier has WiFi when it comes to US. For sure Europe gets it first. Because both phones have almost the same features the one with better battery life is a technical winner. Which one the customers buy is another story. In my experience Samsung phones are more polished as Windows Mobile in HTC phones is like "out-of-the-box version".
Cavalier looks better than Excalibur. Maybe because it looks more like Samsung i320/i600. Who needs the scroll wheel? And who can judge, which kind of wheel is better. Some people like a touch pad some people a jog wheel. At least msmobiles.com cannot claim one phone to be better than another based on a scroll wheel! Technical features are measurable, like thickness, data-speed, battery life etc. but user experience is not so easily measured.
One thing is reality: HTC is late and Samsung got a couple months lead for it's 3G QWERTY device.

Lutz has not posted it, it was me who posted this news item.
And I have seen and touched i600 myself as you can see here:

When in Europe? Well, Samsung wants to make it before Christmas 2006 but I doubt that they will manage it. |

How about in the United States?
Is this going to be T-Mobile or Cingular? |

Even though the i607 has a jog wheel it isn't a true world "globetrotter". It doesn't offer UMTS 2100 (which is Japan/Asia area?). This is where the HTC Cavalier will shine Hopefully it does come to the US! |

Now this phone is hot. I would prefer it to the blackjack for the rocker alone. The rocker on the Blackjack is Horrible. http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1046469
I use the rocker way more than the scroll wheel. The scroll wheel doesn't go left or right so it's limited and actually by holding down on the rocker I can get to the bottom of a page faster than scrolling all the way down. But that's just me. Other then the rocker the Blackjack is a hot phone.
The new Cavalier doesn't seem to sport the same rubberized feel. That's not good. |
