Clearly HSDPA uses much more energy than EDGE, so higher capacity battery can be useful...

| Someone at howards forum told me that it needs extended battery cover as well. Now, where can I get the extended battery cover? I searched but no one is selling them. Wireless Galaxy does not have it and Tessco only sells it to retailers.... |

How much did they pay you for this advertisement? What kind of article is this when you write about one line telling read this? Why didn't you write how you were right from the very beginning and that this proves that BlackJack is the best Windows Mobile phone ever? We so expected to hear how this makes BlackJack much better than any HTC phones.
I'm disappointed.

If you were providing maximum info, you might also include a source for a battery cover...or were you expecting them to use this "cover?" _________________ good titles are misleading!

i would have bought these battery, if i didn't do more research on them and the extended battery cover. I think it is misleading when the post does not say anything about the extended battery cover, but just recommend buying one. Also, posting one specific vendor does not help readers thinking whether your posting was part of an advertising deal withe the vendor (I did some research and there are other vendors who sells these battery as well).
anyhow, i will hold off buying these until the extended battery cover is also out. I hope ms mobile will post an article when the extended battery cover comes out with various vendors. |

I have added a remark about "cover needed" at the end of this news item! Thank you for pointing that out! |

Even more interesting for me would be if msmobiles could get hands on information about ongoing (phone) battery developments and products we might expect in the near future !
The "most current" battery technology (available) is the LiIon (or the very similar LiPolymere), which offers a lot of advantages compared to NiMH, among them the higher energy density.
However even those batteries still can't satisfy the energy hunger of current Smartphones (whatever brand or make they are), especially for UMTS and HSDPA.
There are 2 theoretical approaches to tackle this:
1. Development of low power components (displays, processors, RAM) or
2. Development of batteries with higher energy densities
I think the battery topic is a pending and hot type-independent topic !!!
As the LiIon technology has been on the market for quite some time now I cannot believe that there is nothing beyond.
And no, I do NOT think that currently available fuel cells are a viable alternative to rechargeable batteries !!!
Why ?
If I go on an expedition I'd be glad for a fuel cell giving me power for 2 days. If the expedition lasts 10 days I'd take 5 packs with me. Who cares about the price or the waste to dispose ?
Ther'd be no alternative (= no socket in the Sahara or djungle
As an alternative for daily usage a fuel cell doesn't provide any substantial advantage:
1. I will be dependent on availability of (disposable) cells or special fuel if ever manufactured as self-refillable cells (not very comfortable to refill a cell while driving in a car...)
2. buying a cell will definitely much more expensive than recharging it via an adapter
3. imagine the waste created by disposable fuel cells...
So dear editor:
Could you imagine to start an irregular series on new battery technologies, their current development and products to be expected in the (near) future ?
Most of us would be more interested in this "hot" topic than in the availability of a special battery for a special make.
After all:
Buying a very slim phone like the BlackJack and spoiling the advantage of its slimness by adding a thick battery may be a bit paradox. |
