This is the best news story of year 2006 for Windows Mobile! Not only Skype has adapted mobile client to run with Pocket PC phones powered by energy-saving 200 MHz processors, but most importantly Skype has released...

Microsoft innovation as ever Very Happy

Just what do they do these days? they can't even release a simple text messenger and someone else can release a voip solution that works.

I just hope with Vista being done there's more resources for Microsoft to bring us their innovations lol.

Tried it there, using wifi on my i-mate sp5 I called someone on Windows. There was lots of feedback screeches and echos so I tried turning on echo cancellation. Its not on by default and you need to restart skype to turn it on. At first it seemed much better but then the other person was compaining my voice some times sounded like a robot so perhaps the added cpu load on echo cancellation is causing the audio compression to screw up? Yup lots of lag, bad sound, and I prob wont use it.

And just tried it on the htc s620 and with echo cancellation on it just froze up, and without it on there was about a 3 second lag. Its kinda strange since the s620 has a cpu which is 6mhz faster. Perhaps theres something wrong with the wifi connection on the s620.

What's the hype about skype. ;P

I mean everyone in the Europe says they don't get data just wifi cuz it's expensive. Are there that many wifi hotspots in Euro to be using skype as a regular call replacement. Or is this mainly for International calling? I have so many minutes(U.S) i end up "throwing away" about 5000 every year after my rollover expires. Are there bad voice plans in Euro too?

I know that some people use overclocking of the CPU to 240 MHz approx. and then use of Skype is much better. Maybe you could try overclocking?

Remember that your Internet connection and Wi-Fi connection speeds also play a role!

doesn't work on blackjack with a medium strength 3g signal. i called the echo test thingy and the sound was choppy like max headroom for both the echo lady and my own voice. also, the program runs slow. my blackjack is not overclocked.

yes, but not directly - because it supports slower processors!

With my HTC MTeoR Skype crashes when trying to make a call over 3G. It also crashes sometimes in chat. Really unstable beta version. And I just hate that no-wifi-connection message box, which is displayed every time you make a connection.

it never crashed in my MS Smartphone... and besides: I think that connection quality depends on processor speed and network speed, so if you have slow processor you must have fast network. In other words: for MS Smartphone it would work only with Wi-Fi but not with 3G!

To make sure I understand you, if I use wifi in which the WAP is connected to the internet at DSL speeds (most Starbucks, McDonalds, my home, and the like) Skype will work better than if I use my 3G phone which is connected to the internet at similar DSL speeds (EVDO, HSDPA, and the like)? Is that because the wifi, which relies, in part, on the phone's CPU for its throughput is somehow more efficient than the phone's radio which relies less so on the phone's CPU? Confused

Initial MTeOR frimware is quite unstable and buggy. I am sure that you have updated ROM of your MTeOR already, don't you?
