Recently Microsoft ordered to close down certain well known repository of ROM images - obviously illegal - for HTC manufactured phones. The people who run that website agreed with Microsoft ... but have found a away...

ever heard of "the customers always right"? or "always keep the customers happy"?
big deal that if some1 is downloading wm6.0 for tytn/hymes.
how many people would actually buy WM6.0 for their existing device?
most people would rather buy a future device that is more advance (VGA screen, bt 2.0 EDR, more Ram) and comes bundle with WM6.0.

Wasn't there a case where the defendant lost as the links provided were shown to be illegal, ie. providing links was the illegal act.

If MS or the device manufacturer would offer the WM6 upgrade at a reasonable price, I would be happy to pay for the upgrade. This is no different to any other computer software or OS. Exisiting users should be offer an upgrade path rather than to force to buy a new computer, unless the computer is too old to run the newer software.

no, it IS different in mobile phones than in PC computers! It is decision of manufacturer and/or operator to offer upgrade or to offer new models with new operating system. It IS different therefore.

Rolling Eyes

Its ridicoulous from M$ trying to prevent people from upgrading their devices with newest software and not offering updates for download themselves.

After all with a PC you could install a different OS, but with a HTC device you bought M$ already gets paid for the Windows Mobile and you have no choice to install other OS on your HTC device!!

Therefore HTC and M$ shut up the bullshit and make OS for mobile phones like for PC!!

XDA-Developers do not provide the Illegal ROMs. It is their users that do so. Please do not imply that XDA-developers itself are twarting Microsoft which simply is untrue. And then don't post an article right after this one actually linking to an Illegal link to an Illegal Rom by using rapidshare Illegally.

it is not XDA-Developers providing ROMs it is we the Windows mobile users that simply use different ways of getting what we want. A better working device. I'm not asking for censorship. I'm just stating that your article is incorrect. XDA-developers never encouraged any of it's users to post links to Illegal ROMs on rapidshare.
