Ok, but name a use for it?
Something you can't achieve now that would be very desirable. |

well, many applications that could store databases of something - now they would require installation of big files with SQL mobile but with Windows Mobile 6 it is all in ROM so it will be easy to write and deploy such applications.
Haven't you been using any database application in your life? Now they can be available in Windows Mobile! |

I've written many database applications using SQL Server and embedded Java databases.
I just don't see the point of them in a phone when there's a lot more pressing limitations in the platform that need addressing.
I just think this is a case of doing something because its cool rather than something that is going to change a users experience and daily life. |

NO! Microsoft's target market are corporations and enteerprise applications. To make it easier to make enterprise applications for Windows Mobile they decided to embed the SQL sever in ROM of Windows Mobile 6. They didn't do it "because it's cool", but to satisfy more corporate customers and to make it easier to make corporate and industrial applicatios with Windows Mobile! |

The company I work for are clearly in that market and none of the customers are in the slightest bit interested in mobile devices.
The speed of a mobile device is too slow to do anything serious, the file system is slow and small.
All this SQL Server will be good for is reliably storing your contacts and email.
Would you transport critical data and SQL structures on a mobile phone when visiting a customer site? of course not, 2.5 inch hard disks are faster, easier to access (USB mass storage).
Name the killer application for this technology and I might be talked around. But I just can't see it myself. |

| Also, it doesn't even support stored procedures. So you're limited to having to do everything in a single SQL statement. |
