What if somebody would tell you that you can receive in your mobile TV the same terrestrial digital TV signal as your huge plasma TV can? That you don't have to pay any monthly fees for so called "mobile TV servic...

Maybe your wish will be granted, just wait till June 2007! Please note however that while GPS is clear and not questionable, DVB-H is dubious according to many people, myself included. In UK for example DAB-IP seems better because it re-uses existent DAB radio infrastructures (2 of them: one from BBC and one from private stations).

As DVB (1) surely makes a phone heavier than without it, (2) increases battery drain and (3) is not permanently needed by the customer (but really a nice-to-have), I'd prefer DVB tuners as attachable or connectable devices (tiny accessories) rather than built into the phone.

I also hate carrying an antenna with me in a phone I mainly use as a phone (surprise, surprise...), for checking of mails and surfing.

So I'd say 95% of my time/tasks I use my (smart)phone for is decribed above.

If anyone sees the need for DVB and the manufacturer offers such an add-on device, one can buy it and increase the value of his phone that way.

Such an "attachable" should then include (besides the essential DVB tuner, for which nowadays even exist single-chip solutions, so very very small) a tiny telescopic antenna, appr. 2mm thin and extendable for 10-15 cm (like the small ones, which you get bundled with DVB-USB sticks) and preferably also a rechargable LiON-battery thus preventing the phone from running out of battery.
The "attachable" could be either directly attached to the phone or via 2xMini-USB cable.

What would you think of this ?
I bet most of us smartphone enthusiasts would prefer such a solution in favor of lower weight of their phone and longer battery duration.
(Let's make an online poll on that, wise_acre !)

Perhaps also an inspiration for the industry Wink

Any TV receiving device in the UK will require a TV licence.

I guess with it being portable you won't really get picked up, I guess you can just run or drive away Smile

What if the DVB only adds insignificant weight to the phone, doesn't drain battery when not in use, and doesn't require external antenna. If the feature has demand, it is a matter of time before the technology will catch up to deliver. Take a look at GPS, a few advanced phones have the feature built-in and it is only to get better over time.

I suppose that's why it is good to have many phone manufacturers delivering many different models to suit everyone's need. Some need a basic phone. Others need phone with mp3, etc features. More power users want PDA phones. Me, I want a truly convergent device that does all.
