So will the i-mate Ultimate series ever become reality or not ?
No manufacturer so far dared to announce devices featuring such sophisticated specs at such small form factor and smart design.
I hope that all of this won't have just been imagination.

here you go: VGA PDA phone, tri-band HSDPA (even fast one: 3.6 MB/s), and as bonus: built-in super-sensitive GPS:

I am referring to the i-mate Ultimate 8150.
As far as I found out it won't be available before July (and whether Brightpoint now will really act as European distributor or not - as announced on this year's 3GSM - who really knows...), with an initially intended roll-out date of April, but postponed...

If you look at its specs (e.g. 128 MB RAM, BT 2.0, very fast proc etc.) and its very small form factor - combining both it design-wise the best smartphone. But not reality yet.

If you refer to the X800, which apparently is a bit larger as the i-mate Ultimate 8150, I'd agree.
This device however is a PDA phone, contrary to the i-mate 8150, which is a smartphone.

What a pity that also this device is not yet available and sure won't be before July this year.

I'm also always very concerned in believing a July or August launch date (especially if already postponed).
July and August are holiday seasons and few people then think of buying a new phone.
So I wouldn't be too surprised if both manufacturers would again postpone this roll-out - this time to fall (which is in most cases October), without too much people even taking notice of such a postponement.

Time to market is a big driver nowadays, no doubt.
But what many manufacturers are practicing can only be called marketing by promises.
I wonder if anyone is benefitting from such a practice, except for those, who can hold "phenomenal" press conferences.
