This program is NOT FREE - contrary to what software vendor claims - because users need to enter valid email address to download it. In other words: users are in danger of having their email accounts being abuseed b...

You may not agree with registering for a download, but it does not make it less free.
They advertize free as in beer. There is no money leaving your bank account/credit card/paypal, therefore IT IS FREE LITERALLY.
Stop twisting words to fit with your own hidden agenda! |

In the UK anyway, 'free' when referred to a product or service means it costs no money.
Otherwise where do you draw the line? Is it free when you have to enter an email address? Is it free when you have to move your wrist to click the mouse and hence expend energy that cost you money in terms of food?
I don't see your point here I'm afraid. Most tech savvy users that would use this product have at least one throw away email address for exactly this purpose. |

So, since we must enter our e-mail address in order to post responses on the MSMobiles.com forums, then they must not be free, either...
When iambic says their product is free, that doesn't mean you can simply click on a link to download it. Many, many, many sites offer free downloads but require a "free" registration. This can be for many reasons from enabling user support to spam marketing. Considering that when I registered for my account on msmobiles, Hotmail classified it as junk mail, I would be more inclined to believe that I will get spammed as a result of that than if I were to register for a free download of TopStory. |

This brand of thinking baffles me. No cost = no money my friend. How you equate giving an email as cost is beyond me. I agree with the others, you required I give you my email to register. I also had to receive an activation email (Spam?) to use this account. Come on! If I wanted I could cry foul too. Right?
Poor Adriano over on iambic had to issue a statement about this which is just plain awful that he even had to over something so trivial. Iambic is not using our emails for distribution. I have been their customer for 4 years and never had a problem. They are very reputable. Shame on you! _________________ Treo 700wx

Amen. The writers on this site have become far too opinionated. This is supposed to be a news and information site, not a blog for rants and raves. Reviews, fine...but accusations, moral objections, and other irrelevant opinions need to be left off the table and kept either in the forums or posted on a real blog somewhere. I'm rather astonished this site hasn't been sued for defamation of character. I realize that the US protects freedom of speech, but even that has its limits, and a post like the one about iambic is a seriously negative stab at a company that is producing a great product and asking only for their users to register. I bet TopStory even works with the RSS feed generated by this site, yet that wasn't mentioned in the "news article" about it. Can we get back to the useful news on here instead of blogging about stupid s***?! |
