Fring is an application that uses Fring's intermediary servers to connect to Skype, Google Talk, MSN and Twitter. Apart from that it includes also SIP soft-phone. And all this is for free!

While fring for S...

STill loooking for a SIP client that can use the phone speaker and not the multimedia speaker on the back but I think its due to some (stupid) hardware design limitation. (On the HTC Trinity and most other PPC Phones)

This is getting ridiculous. Free = doesn't cost money. Has it occured to you that they may do it that way to ensure that you get the correct download URL for your phone (without having to manually enter it)? Many non-Windows Mobile devices don't support application installation via the PC, so it wouldn't make much sense to offer downloads for those devices. Since they recently added Windows Mobile support, they would have had no reason to build a PC-based download capability into their site.

And, how do you justify stating that it's a pretty much useless application? It offers a wide array of features that I'm pretty sure you won't find in any other single client. Especially for older devices, it's important to conserve space, so having a single application that handles multiple tasks is generally preferred to multiple applications that each handle a single task. Plus, it's combining all those features into a single UI, so you don't have to constantly swap applications to use the features you want.

This is seriously the worst Windows Mobile news site in existence. I stopped visiting a few others already due to their lack of information...this site just has a lack of USEFUL information. Pretty much useless, if you ask me.

because it is better to have original applications instead of replacements because they have much much more features and you don't have to worry that somebody is spying on your data due to use of intermediary server.

and jklukan, msmobiles.com is not useless but it is SUPER-useful because it dares to say things that most other sites don't even dare to think !

I am really surprised about your statements. First of all Skype has no working app for WM smartphone, and if you take a look they stoped the support or download for their beta. Take a look at the skype forums, mainly regarding the problems with Moto Q, and BlackJack, and their lack of response or will to correct the problems. We speak about skype who is not even trying to make a symbian version, altough symbian is the market leader in smartphone OS. I installed fring yesterday, and found a bug in it, wrote a mail to support, and surprise, within less than 24 hours I got a replay (not an automated one), which for skype is light years away. If we speak about the PC version of skype, I agree that at the moment it is the best, but please try a bit of more objectivity. Fring has it faults as well, but it basiclly works. Your mentioning the problem of download price from SMS, sorry again, as you where trying in purpose to find a fault. When using VoiP on mobile, either you use your data plan, or WiFi hotspot. If you use dataplan, I don't think that about 2.3 M is going to bankrupt you compared with the amount of data you are going to use with VoiP. But if you are so savvy with your money, why not make the download over a free WiFi hotspot??..Smile

Furthermore fring is collecting forcibly (there is no way around it - otherwise one cannot download this application) phone numbers of users

False. I went to their website and entered some random number and email address and still managed to download the .cab file.

Haven't actually tried it out yet though.
