ROM upgrades with Windows Mobile 6 should be released to several models of HTC-manufactured phones by now, but we have to say that HTC is failing to make good on the promise...

Situation is getting annoying because by now users were expecting to get Windows Mobiel 6 ROM upgrades already... but it is not happening! Our advice is therefore clear: do not buy any Windows Mobile phone not powered by Windows Mobile 6! Clearly one cannot count on promises of manufacturers.

| Eten only has two phones to support. Plus their X500+ is largely the same as the X500, just a different display. |

Actually through T-Mobile USA HTC released a WM upgrade for the T-Mobile Dash.
I think the main problem is that the hardware for the majority of the WM 5 devices just does not cut it for the WM 6 platform. I have the T-Mobile Wing which has the same essential hardware as the MDA, as a result I find that the MDA was more stable and needed much fewer resets per day due to memory leaking issues.
I find that all WM devices suffer memory leaking issues, but the more RAM which is available to begin with the better one is off.
Since both the MDA and the Wing have the same memory and processor it is easy to make comparissons. I notice that with the Wing there is even less available RAM for programs to run in than the MDA had. These issues should be resolved with the newer hardware platforms like the Keiser which sports 256 MB of ROM and 128 of RAM plus a 400 Mhz processor.
With all this in mind I believe that HTC would rather put out a more reliable hardware platform to match up with the more memory intensive WM6 software platform rather than putting out a bunch of short term fixes which will just wind up being an issue for most people.
I say not only to stay away from any native WM5 phones but also to stay away from any WM6 phones with WM 5 hardware platforms. _________________ Ignoring Troll Behavior in Pursuit of Deterring Disinformation and Off-Topic, Antagonism.

I do NOT agree - HTC promised already WM6 for several WM5 phones and they know their hardware so... it isn't it. Regarding T-Mobile: I was meaning of courese HTC itself and HTC branded phones, not operators.
Anyway one exception doesn't break a rule: there are no ROM upgrades for HTC-manfauctured phones. |

I'm running the T-Mobile WM6 upgrade on my Dash and it was definitely rushed. There are tons of mistakes (and spelling errors) in the registry that cause issues with the usability with the phone.
I would prefer that HTC takes the time necessary to get them done correctly AS LONG AS THEY DON'T FORGET TO FINISH.

Yeh I agree HTC used to be reliable for OS upgrades. Most if not all the devices got WM5 except for the ones without large enough ROM for the WM5 base image. Now it seems HTC are going the way of Dell and HP, and dare I say it... Toshiba!!!
Now HTC have become a device brand they have to be smarter about how they market their products. I reckon their plan is to EOL sooner than they have in the past, and thats why we aren't seeing a WM6 Rom for the Excalibur. If you want WM6 they want you to buy a Vox. _________________ WiFiFoFum Pocket PC Wardriving

Please see this page for details:

I guess, there is no technical issue with releasing WM6 upgrade to *any* of currently manufactured HTC. WM6 is just a minor update top WM5.
My personal understanding, that HTC has *a deal* with Carriers like T-Mo, and others that force them to release updates to carrier branded handsets first. That makes sense.
Also, my personal understanding is that Excalibur is receiving WM6 update later then others (September 2007) due to the fact that it will minimise difference in feature set between Cavalier and Excalibur. Manufacturers still want us to upgrade our phones. Don't they? _________________ Securing the future of communication. www.securegsm.com |

| I have given up hope of getting the upgrade from HTC or i-mate for that matter. And I don't bother. I have the WM6 upgrade from XDA and the likes. My JASJAM is currently running WM6 ROM from BlackMajik. It was way cool. Fast and stable and with all goodies and none of the junks. I doubt if HTC upgrade can top that anyway. |

| I gave up on HTC and I ended up buying an Apple I Phone. Once Apple gets Exchange integration with activesync, HTC is going to really get hurt. |
