OEMs are control freaks, they want to change the OS around and Microsoft doesn't let them do it.
It has it's advantages and disadvantes, some OEMs are pretty useless at writing software and Microsoft doesn't want their reputation ruined by 3rd party code.
However the Windows Mobile platform needs radical change, it's not good enough to keep saying "business likes it" when you have Dell and Fujitsu Siemens pulling out of the market. |

Yes! Also Windows Mobile needs re-orientation towards consumers instead of business users. |

Business users and home users have similar needs. The core functionality of phone calls and messaging are pretty much the same.
Microsoft has all the technology for media playback and the like. They just need to work on the user experience. It's time for an interface redesign, put some thought into it, make touch screens more usable for the masses. Scrap the WIMP desktop design paradigm and create a mobile OS which is designed for life on move. |

| I agree that business phone also need consumer features. Business people also need entertainment as they travel. WM phones have all the features there. What it really need is to improve the user interface design and make the phone truly a converging device, like making phone call, listen to mp3 songs, watching video and live TV, along with other business needs. |

Well, yes.
But out of my own experience (and outing myslf as a Windows Mobile fan I can say that only few of my friends have a Windows Mobile Phone, but most of them either a Nokia or a Blackberry.
However in business life situation seems to be totally different: 70-80% of my business partners have a Windows Mobile PDA, most of them in addition to a phone (Nokia...).
Most of them - still - have one of these Qtek S200 and also Jasjam (which was and still is a very popular device).
Whenever I'm asking why the answer is the same: Because it is very versatile, emails can be written in a very comfortable way and there are lots of nice "helpers" (PIM add-ons) making it comfortable to stay connected. |

| What's the difference between a "wireless, push-email enabled, PDA" and a "smartphone?" |

All WM 6 smartphones these days can do push email over the air (GPRS), as long as you have the Exchange server or similar set up properly.
On the other hand, a PDA does not neccessary mean it can also function as a phone. Otherwise it would be called a PDA phone, or a smartphone. |
