This is probably the best virtual keyboard ever! At first look it loks like SureType technology where 2 letters are located on one key:

... and then predictive mechanism is discovering what word was supposed ...

Windows Mobile has better virtual keyboard then iPhone

I seriously doubt you have actually used the iphones keyboard. Simple features such as the keyboard actually changing depending on the application being used. eg having a .com button and web url related keys when typing a url into the browser. Not only does it predict words based on its dictionary and phonmes but also on key location. this is very important on a touch keyboard For example its easy to put an o instead of p due to location iPhone would detect this and correct it. As you type words not only are you given the choices of prediction though the next suggested letters target area actually grows. You just drag the cursor on the iPhone to where you want and use the multi touch to make a selection.

However the key advantage the iPhones keyboard has over this is one or two hand typing are easy and uncomplex. To enter an uppercase T in this keyboard I have to press slide up and slide to the left. With multi touch on the iPhone I hold shift and press T very simple.

However this keyboard is a huge advancement over whats currently there and it is very innovative. As a first attempt its very good quality and I have only been using it a while and it takes some getting used to just like the iPhone. I hope they get their patents soon to protect from intelectual property theft.

you don't understand! To hold down shift key and press T you have to use 2 hands and with this TouchPal keyboard you can do it with just ONE FINGER and ONE HAND. It is more important how effective given virtual keyboard is for ONE HANDED typing ! And in th is respect TouchPal is better than iPhone's keyboard.

Again this is my prefered method of typing on the iPhone. Why because the iPhone is designed to be used with two fingers, thats why has a multi touch, touch screen. The reality is the reason you need a one finger aproach on windows mobile touch screens is because they are single touch. However for those who want a single touch approach the iPhone caters for it, infact its keyboard tutorial recommends it to get used to typing on touch screen keyboard. (remember most of the iPhone target market has never used a touch screen keyboard.) This can also be done by tapping shift and T to get a capital T with two movements where on this keyboard it requires 3 motions. This is the real strength of the iPhone interface it caters for all, those who using both hands or just one.

Thats completely bogus. The one finger approach is so you can hold something in your other hand. Stop making stupid apologies for Apple.

That's not an apology for Apple. Your assumption holds just as much water as his.

Anyways, I have used both of these KB's and have to say that the experience on the iPod Touch is still a lot nicer than my WM device with TouchPad keyboard.

Really then how come when I am typing and my other hand is free do I still can only use one finger? Bit of a fundamental flaw that don't you think!

Space restrictions mean small keyboards, this is why the slider keyboard on HTCs etc is full querty as it has more space. Large touch screens have plenty of space for a full querty keyboard yet you are still restricted to one finger input. Why, single-touch screens!

The iPhone provides full querty multitouch input which mimics a real keyboard thats why it does not need a hardware slider keyboard like may windows mobile devices. This cannot be done on any current windows mobile device and thats not an apology for apple but a fact.

No doubt this is a great little app for something like the HTC touch. Though for the TyTn II I'll stick to the two handed keyboard.

Just want to say something here to:
Yes, iPhone is a cool product for sure. But I have to say its keyboard is not good enough and not so innovative, especially compared with TouchPal. (I am an iPhone user!)
Frankly, iPhone's screen is far away big enough to make typing easy on top of it. That's why they provide auto-correction feature, right? Auto-correction is a good thing. The prediction on iPhone is pretty weak. That is the truth. I usually have to finish all characters for a word.

Ok, one question here, you go to buy a car. There are ABS/ESP mounted, together with several airbags. Which feature you'd like to use first? ASB/ESP or the airbag? I bet you never really want to use airbag, right? The same to keyboard. Correcting is good, but why should we rely on it to save our life if we have a better solution to AVOID accident? Even, auto-correction doesn't work well for a lot of short words.

So, I buy in CooTek's idea. We should help users avoid mistake first, and then correction! It is no doubt but Apple didn't really realize this point!

And, there are batches of reasons why I think TouchPal is more innovative:
1. word assoication! did you ever see such feature in any other keyboard? this is super useful! I really hate to type something like "implementing" on iPhone. But on TouchPal, it is so easy!
2. did you notice that you don't need to move your eyes focus up and down to confirm what you typed on TouchPal? everything is right in that small keyboard panel. you will see how important it is!
3. TouchPal has much better prediction feature than iPhone. It is obvious.
4. Yes, one hand operation is important to a lot of people. I think TouchPal supports that perfectly!
5. With TouchPal, you even don't need to switch views. Sliding down/up is actually a very cheap operation once you get used to it!
6. I think TouchPal supports typing unregular words perfectly, much better than iPhone. You can easily switch to "precise input mode" by just one slide!
7. See the copy/paste feature? On iPhone, it is impossible! But it's not innovative.

Ok, again, after using both keyboards, my conclusion is: TouchPal is obvious more innovative and better! No doubt.

I said, iPhone is a good product as a whole! But TouchPal is indeed a brilliant soft keyboard design. I love T+. Hope they can improve continously.

I post the support mail I got from CooTek. I encountered load issue as well. After using disabling some Today items, it works perfectly now!

=======================================
First of all, you need a soft reset after installing to get it work.

And, if it still doesn't work and there are some other soft keyboard installed on your device already, I'd like to suggest you unstalling them, reinstall TouchPal again and then soft reset. Some soft keyboard modifies system configuration, which might cause other keyboards fail to launch.

And, if it doesn't work, another try will be turning off all Today items on your desktop. You can go to Start -> Settings -> Today. Select "Windows default" in appearance tab and uncheck all items in other tab. Then soft-reset your device. After rebooting, please exactly open Start -> Settings. Now you can see the SIP selector in the downside bar. Try to select TouchPal at that time to see whether it is loaded. If yes, that means your pre-load items comsumed too much memory which causes TouchPal failed to be loaded by Windows system.
=======================================

If it still doesn't work on your device, I would like to recommend you referring to the following link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1564275#post1564275
(This is not an official solution from CooTek, but it works sometimes.)

The iPhone is completely innovative including its keyboard. Their is no other mobile device that supports software based multiple touch input.

Again I think you completely miss the point. Open up Word or any other word processor and tell me if it supports prediction. This feature is normally only present on mobile phones or learning and accessibilty products.

Apples and pears, in a word processor correction afterwards is prefered. Why because when a prediction is wrong its very annoying especially when you are a fast typist. Look in the modaco forums to see how many people are trying to figure out how to turn prediction features of especially on devices with full querty keyboards. Why because correction is faster for a good fast typist.

Its called a thesaurus again used at the end to speed up typing.

On the iPhone I don't even look at the keyboard anymore. My eye is always focused on the text. Isn't that what any typist does, and is where you should be focusing.

Works fine for me and the dictionary is completely customisable as standard on many devices. Though this is a feature I ignore on a two handed querty keyboard, its just faster to type.

Though iPhone supports one handed and two handed, TouchPal can only support one handed due to hardware limitations.

So is switching views.

Though the iPhone interferes a lot less with your typing. No word association etc, sorry but I use a thesaurus after I type a document.

The best keyboard is actually a real one, this is what the iPhone has tried
to duplicate. With a multi touch screen this is possible and I think the iPhone does it pretty well, not perfectly but well.

On my Tytn II with the full querty keyboard there is no reason why I would want this software.

Smile Are you an employee working for Apple? just kidding...

Anyway, it is obvious you're really a jerk. I don't want to spend time convince you, it is meaningless. I just have to tell you the word-correction works pretty bad for a lot of people. Just a simple example if you don't believe, iPhone always corrects "on" to be "in", "of" ot "if"... A looooot of similar stupid errors on soooooo much frequently-used words.

You can go ahead choosing airbag. Fine!

BTW, on their demo, do you know > 300 c/m means what? >5 pressing/sec. Do you think you really can reach without any mistake? Very Happy You gonna be super man. Cool

Your not the only one with an iPhone and windows mobile device you know. I just want to know why users of windows mobiles are such zealots to such a degree that they resort to flaming. Ps I actually use a nokia e61 as device of choice.

Really I had no problems apart from usernames etc in safari however it now seams to have added those to its dictionary. The only problem I see with this is foreign languages though you can turn it off if you wish. I don't want to post a link to another forum here though just google for "disable auto correction" iPhone.

The point is I don't need correction or prediction with a two handed keyboard where I can look at what I type rather than the keyboard. I prefer to do that when I have finished my mail just like in outlook or word a this also gives me the chance to proof read it.

really you mean the 93 characters in 18 secs. You sure that looks pretty well rehearsed. I know I certainly can get nowhere near that speed. Also I am pretty sure it also depends on what hes typing in.

Practically full querty with two handed input is still quickest.

I have a Tytn II and I much prefer the hardware keyboard to this.
