Actually i-mate Ultimate 8502 is much smaller than expected and it not only matches features of HTC Kaiser because it also has 3.5G and built-in GPS, but it even beats HTC Kaiser in one respect: it features VGA disp...

You meant QVGA, 8502 has QVGA, same as HTC Kaiser/TyTN II.

Regarding scroll wheel, there is a wheel and it scrolls Smile So, not sure what you really mean by scroll wheel and its function compared to the 8502 wheel

You forgot XGA out! Doesn't the 8502 also have that feature? I would think that would be a major plus for some

yes, it seems to have it.. however without interviewing I doubt in everything imate says becauase for example here:
http://www.imate.com/pt-pr-2007-CTIA.aspx?skinid=1
... imate claims that 8502 has VGA (at the end of the page) but here:
http://www.imate.com/support/specs/SpecSheet_8502.pdf
... imate claims that it has QVGA only.

Ahh, yes I see what you mean. It seems to me (of course I can't speak on behalf on the company) that it's just a typo (the VGA screen) cause most sources say it's QVGA. (I dont think there was any dispute though about the XGA out, was there?)

Also, I personally never put much faith in interviews with anybody who isn't the designer or engineer of the phone cause they often have errors. Like that woman at the CTIA, she made a few errors herself when saying what the specifications of the phones were. I usually only trust the original specifications page of the website (not even a copy of it at another page, cause of problems like typos above) Anyway, thats just me though.

They (Imate) would certainly have a winner in the 8502 if it weren't for that stupid off-center navigation nub. Why they chose that location instead of positioning it between the windows and ok button is beyond me.

Dumb move Imate.

Please don't say "is" (present tense) in the article, but rather "will be" (future tense) !

This "successor" to the current models, while even these are not yet on the market, won't surely be available before well in 2008.

The TyTN II however is available.

Well, I own a pre-commercial model of the 8150 and it is really cool, especially the VGA resolution is. Also the bezel is really good.

However it is strange that i-mate "corrected" the size factor of this device only shortly before publicly showing the first working samples by replacing the features on the website and adding the new picture.

I was hoping to get a genuine replacement of my PHONE by size; also I hoped that it would come with WM6 Standard (= smartphone edition).

It is true the TyTN II also is no smartphone but a PDA.

But the TyTN II - despite the fact that it has no VGA (the only thing I cannot understand), no more IrDA (would be nice to be able to use it as a remote control), no LED flash (the 8150 has one !), no VGA connector (well, cute but you don't need that all the time) and I had hoped that they spend it a more powerful standard battery of a capacity of >1550mAh - is a super-cool device !!!

It looks fine, the flipping mechanism is absolutely useful and never before was a device so comfortable to take in your hand as this one.

Also the keyboard is betterto use in practice than that of the i-mate's, simply because it is bigger due to the landscape arrangement.

If HTC is clever they put on the market in 6 months from now just one more model: a TyTN III, which looks the same, but is somewhat only feature-enhanced.

But I agree with others who said here that basically i-mate MUST stay in business to give competition to HTC.
