It looks like i-mate will either go bankrupt or will be purchased by some other company - the situation is that bad and this time even Financial Times confirms it.

Some highglights about i-mate's situation:

Just stop. The company is in financial trouble. Just because you and a couple of internet forum posters like their 6150's doesn't put the company in a better financial situation.

Imate would be best served by being bought out. Crappy products and crappy support over the years sealed this deal.

Your confidence in Imate is admirable. However, comparing it to Apple is a joke.

I am not a big fan of I-mate either, but I have to admit, I did loved Jam very much. I still miss it. And I do wish them all the best. WM market need more competition, not less! We need someone to shake up that Big Lazy asses from HTC, who got too comfortable controling 90% of the market. And some devices introduced by I-mate, have a potential, without a doubt.

Whether I-mate goes under or not, the two I-mate Ultimates are both excellent phones that feature everything I want and nothing I don't. I have a bluetooth keychain GPS (MTK 2.0) that is so superior to the Qualcomm GPSOne, they shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence. And my Touchpal keyboard is fine thanks, at 6mm and 50g less than a hardware keyboard.

If I wanted a "Jack-of-all-trades, master of none" device like the (underperforming and quite frankly, under-specced) TyTN II, I would have bought it.

Anyway, back on topic....

Things have been looking dire at I-mate for a long time. The Ultimate 6150 and 8150 were the devices that they thought would get them back on top, and help them to fund and release future products (9502, 8502). However, they have done an exceptionally poor job of releasing them. They are 6 months to a year late, and this is what effectively has killed the sales. People want whatever is 'new', and showing the same specs and pics for a year doesn't exactly engage excitement. With the way they handled the release the 6150 and 8150, its pretty naive of them to think they could get back on top with these two products. No matter how flawless they are.

Oh, and the 6150's specs >>>> the TyTN II's specs Laughing

Can't see much love on there or anywhere else. Typical threads on the forum you linked:-
"6150 lots of issue"
"Imate Support (or lack of it) "
"Very dissapointed by the 8150 capacities."
"Let's press I-Mate!"(It seems that 6150 / 8150 have serious problems...)

and on the 8150 at eXpansys:-
"bad bad and much less than expected_ HUGE BATTERY ISSUE by Anonymous - 10 January 2008
Well, Power Settings are the oddest ever for any phone. THe whole Phone totally sleeps in 1 min by default, the light turn off in 10 seconds.... Under these restringnet default settings, the battery lasts only 8 hours maximum, and that is with doing 4 phone calls each 3 minutes, having blue tooth on, wireless off, music off, 4 emails, 2 text messages. Imagine if I had a busier day, it does not last 8 hour day at work. Also a MAJOR problem is the power settings, when the phone turns off , it will wake up with a phone call fine!, but if you were in the car (acura RDX 2007 acura link) it will not connect to the bluetooth since it was sleeping till too late after the rings have rang for 4-5 times so I will have to answer with the phoneand not with the bluetooth link! Also THe speaker quality is HORRIBLE, the sound EVEN with 128 kbs mp3 and even with headset IT IS HORRIBLE!!!! Does not sound anything like the previous imate phones or the HTC phones. Finally, the absence of a seperate audio jack is very bothersome to me! for the price this phone get 1-2 stars out of 5 .... the only positive thing is that it is pretty fast and the skype experience on it is GOOD"

More of the same at GSMArena etc. There seems to be a distinct lack of enthusiastic reports from early adopters playing with their shiny new toy - which is highly unusual for a something this feature rich.

Sad to see, because I was looking forward to the 9502.
