This is beyond pathetic! Not only there is no Silverlight for Windows Mobile although it was released for Mac OS and Linux, but now the XNA game development kit available by now for PC and Xbox, is coming to Zune - ...

It's worth noting that the largest WM device maker gives their devices less than stellar graphics capabilities. I'm not so sure it is that WM devices are being neglected. I'm more inclined to think that the capabilities of the typical WM device are not meeting minimum requirements for providing the experience that MS would like to provide.

That's my theory/conjecture.

you know there comes a time when you have to decide... having used winmo ppc phones for last 5 yrs i finally gave up.. and went with nokia e90
amazing device.. better IE experience than any wm device can offer at the moment.. amzing screen (sure there is protege with better screen res and not to mention touch screen) but i can do any thing on my nokia e90 that i could do on my imate 8150 (the latest one i got before buying the nokia) , its fast , its beautiful and it has one thing all HTC universal users wanted/needed (actually 2 things) one gps the other small screen u can use when the mobile is not in open clamp shell mode and lastly and above all.. which was the main reason i got heart broken by a wm device..
exceptional phone capabilites.. it doesnt hang, doesnt need to be reset 5 times a day and even more it has the best one handed experience i have had in a mobile device (i had many many many wm dvices over the years treo, smasung black jack , ubiuqou 502 , imate jaq 2 and imate 8150 to name the ones that can directly compete with my e90 as far as one handed usefulness goes !) and im not even including my htc tytn and tytn II cos you have to slide them open and the qwerty really isnt one handed use and yeah with tytn II the lack of drivers and not having full multimedia capabilities really sucked.. thats why i got the ultimate 8150 ..but thats a lost cause too ) now waiting for s60 touch version !!!

I think I can sympathize with you. I had a VGA resolution Toshiba e805 with a 400+ MHz processor. After a few years I was ready to replace it with what I hoped to be a model with a much faster proc and more ram. But to my surprise over the course of several years there were almost no advancements made in the hardware.

At the time I resolved to continue to use my e805 and a phone with bluetooth to connect to the internet. Here we are a total of 5 years later and there are very few phones that have specs that are higher than the Toshiba PPC that I had.

From what I've seen the market for these devices is dominated by the most affordable devices, not the most capable devices, and the largest maker is doing well making what I consider to be low end devices.

I suppose that's the state of things though.

The author would be better served by reporting actual news instead of adding personal opinion as to what Microsoft should or shouldn't do. I'm certainly spending more time at the BoyGenious Report lately.

SilverLight. Who cares. Flash works great.

XNA games on WM. Again, who cares, I can get my email while I'm in the can, and use the GPS to get to where I gotta go.

Furthermore, the Zune is a hardware designed and managed by Microsoft, so they have direct control over the Zune's abilities, which include gaming quality hardware. As it was pointed out, a certain large WM manufacturer has failed to implement or license graphically accelerated API's.

Vote with your money, buy a Nokia or something else. That is the only way the situation will ever change, competitive pressure.

Failing that, go buy an Xbox for Christ sakes.
