| This is another nail in windows mobiles coffin. It saddens me to say this as I have been a long time user of windows mobile devices, but I bought an iPhone last month and I have never once missed my wm phone. The iPhone works every time I use it and with the announcements today I will never go back to wm. The only people to blame for this are microsoft they have turned there back on their customers for too long and sold them shoddy products and offered very little support with upgrades and usability add ons. The iPhones not perfect yet but we all know it will keep getting better and better and as i say its not perfect yet, it is still far superior than any windows mobile device I have ever had. |

Until/unless a 3G iphone is released with GPS and a decent battery life, I will not touch one of those overpriced "toys," as netboy puts it. I love my BJII, has everything in it except wifi, but with 3G, who cares about WiFi?
Microsoft's support and backing of WM sucks, that's true, but Apple's just using their system to make money. People confuse Apple's actions with good intention, but in fact, it is just a money making scheme. Who would charge for bugfixes which should not have been needed in the first place? Only Apple. Apple's not better then Microsoft, and in many cases, they're worse. Sure Apple can offer such incentives as described in this article because they've ripped off all their users so successfully. |

EJR, you're a REAL idiot. You DON'T NEED TO PAY TO DEVELOP FOR WM!
Visual Studio 2005/8 Professional IS NOT THE ONLY WAY TO MAKE SOFTWARE FOR WM.
You're a complete MORON. Stop SPREADING FUD!
You are also WRONG that Microsoft doesn't help developers financially!

As with music and movies on itunes Apple are running the itunes store at break even. And giving 70% to app developers, that is truly amazing. The iPhone already overtook WM's smartphone marketshare and more people browse the web on the iPhone than all other mobile platforms combined. The iPhone is a stunning device and now it has official 3rd party apps and games from EA and Sega I think WM has about a year left before its over. MS never cared about the platform anyway its pretty embarrasing it hasnt really improved in 8 years, just got slower. _________________ WiFiFoFum Pocket PC Wardriving

Dude, cool it. They said Microsoft needs to release a free SDK for native WM software. That is true, MS has not released a free SDK for native WM software development. Obviously there are other/free alternatives, but not from MS.
I do think they portrayed MS a little harshly in this article, but your response here is simply wrong. It is unnecessary. If you dislike msmobiles, then stop coming here. After all, it's a blog, not a news site. |

You're right. And 70% is good comparatively, but I wouldn't take that much. And Apple is only successful because of their extreme advertisements. Publicity is what counts in America. And Apple understood that, MS never cared enough. I agree that MS never cared enough about WM, but they at least were fair with it. It's even been possible to get major updates, not just minor updates for free. Let's see if Apple charges for firmware 2.0. Wouldn't surprise me.
iTunes is a different story. In running iTunes, they were able to generate more publicity for the iPod, and eventually the iPhone. I think you see where this is going...
I'm not saying MS doesn't do things just for profit. All companies do. But I believe MS cares more about their customers then Apple does, and that is why I do not support Apple as a company. There are other reasons why I don't support their individual products also, but I'm not going into that.
The other thing to take into account is that MS does not develop phones. They only make the operating system. This makes it difficult to compare MS's product to Apple's. Apple has one product. MS has an operating on a number of phones.
But just remember, this is all just my opinion. I didn't say much of factual information in either of my posts. Speculation and thoughts are all I have given. |

I really hope Windows Mobile 6.5 or 7 or whatever they are going to call it comes out sooner than the Apple iPhone SDK.
We need something to get exicited about again. Windows Mobile 6.X was supposed to have been announced in January (at least according to conventional thinking) and here it is March and Microsoft isn't even hinting about it. There haven't even been any more leaked screen shots or videos. Somebody's got to have it.
Bad PR move on Microsoft's part IMHO.
Still, I'm sold on Windows Mobile and unless / until Microsoft stops making it and phone makers stop licensing it, I'll still be using it. It satisfies everything I want/need (though some things could be improved) in a mobile communicator. _________________ Aaron J. Walker

WM6.1 has been leaked to some phones. It's not been officially released and I have no idea what's going on with it, but it's not dead. I agree though, it would be nice to see MS get a new WM out before Apple claims anything else...
But this is what I mean, MS doesn't know how to work the publicity like Apple does. Apple crushes MS when it comes to publicity, and that is why WM has failed so badly when the iPhone came out.
BTW though, in WM6.1, the new PocketIE is awesome. It has a real cool zoom feature like Opera Mini 4, and I tried it on my old phone. I can't wait to get it on my Blackjack 2.... |

I have 6.1 on my Hermes and pocket IE is too slow to look at the full version of web sites really. _________________ WiFiFoFum Pocket PC Wardriving
