|

Nokia has purchased gate5 GmbH company, and now Nokia is giving away for FREE a GPS software that makes possible something that even Google Maps can't: off-line mapping with use of GPS. Online mapping is not a big...

Nokia don't provide support for the Windows Mobile version of this software, or at least they didn't five months ago. Seems unlikely that would've changed in the meantime.
Lack of support can be an issue for some people, they might be better off buying one of the pay-for GPS packages.
Rather than letting maps download as you go, you're better off using 'Nokia Map Loader', which you can get from their website, to load the maps directly onto a memory card. It might look like it only works with the Symbian version of Nokia Maps/Smart2Go, but both versions store their maps in exactly the same directories. I've used the same microSD card with a Nokia E65 and a T-Mobile Vario II.
Smart2Go is, unfortunately, much much nicer on S60 than it is in Windows Mobile. I've never managed to make it work with my bluetooth GPS on Windows Mobile, whereas it works without any effort at all on the E65. |

no, that's not correct! I tried to use this downloader and it said that my card is in wrong format. In other words: one needs to have symbian phone to make this trick. If you know how to do it without symbian phone - let us know!

I've done this, so it is correct. :op
Make sure you're using the right application - Nokia have more than one different maps platform now. You need the one from http://maps.nokia.com/
You also need to open the maps application on the phone, with the memory card in the phone, and potentially let it download some maps first.
All the map loading I did was with the memory card in a card reader - so it's got nothing to do with the model of phone! |

I did it - opened some maps on the phone first, but I used downloader from smart2go not from maps.nokia.com . If I use downloader from maps.nokia.com will it work with smart2go in Windows Mobile ? |

The only one I ever used was from maps.nokia.com. This was, however, six months ago. I don't work for Nokia any more and don 't have a Nokia phone. |

I tried to run this app. Once it starts up I see a map of the world centered on Africa and that's it; no options, no menu, nothing. I have to go to the task manager to kill it.
Using a Cingular 8125 (HTC Wizard) with Windows Mobile 5. |

hi
ive been using this app since it first came out on different ppc including imate 8150 (with holux BT gps) and htc trinity
the key is that you first run the app on ppc then quit .. use a card reader with your microSD in it .. use the map loader app .. and download the map you need to the sd card ...
it works flawlessly |

Google maps works this way, I'm launching it and I can instantly zoom in and out the area I live in, looks like it caches the data. _________________ HTC TyTN | HTC Tornado SP5 |
