While the rest of the world, mainly meaning Europe and Asia, is getting the new flashy super-phones from HTC like HTC Touch Diamond and HTC Touch Pro, the USA will have to wait several months to get American version...

what about the lawsuit against Qualcommīs 3G chips? Didnīt that cancelled the launch of HPīs iPAQ 600? |

I think that's an oversimplification of the issue. The infrastructures on which these nation/region specific standards were formed when there was less global interaction. With less global interaction there is less of a need for agreement.
Even if all of the world could agree on using a common electrical socket, voltage, and frequency, then a good bit of time, resources, and money would need to be spent on replacing, modifying, or adding converters to the uncountable number of electrical devices in the nations that don't currently use the decided upon standard.
In the case of frequencies the 900 MHz band is already allocated for other types of equipment, so 850 MHz is used instead. Change is possible, but potentially expensive and something that |
