Today morning we have received from HTC UK this phone (here visible during a 3G video call):

... which is, of course, the HTC Touch Diamond. It comes preloaded with latest ROM image, is fast, and HSDPA/3G is ...

Well you could show us a video of you using the Touch UI so we can judge for ourselves how different it is, so you can convince us.

I thought you said the iPhone was better than WM phones. Why so enthusiastic now?

because certain American bloggers and podcasters were whining so much about HTC Touch Diamond that I was expecting the worst but in reality nothing from their gloomy reports I could confirm... so I am happy - that's why I am ethusiastic.

How long does the animation take to display the Mail panel on TouchFLO 3d? If you're using the slide icons at the bottom, measure from the time you let your finger off at the Mail panel selection... until the animation stops and you can see a preview of your email.

Sounds like a video demonstration is in order.

EJR just wants to tease us and I'm sure he will show us more bit by bit.

Having said that, people believe what they want to believe and they see what they believe. From Abyss.

Hi EJR,

First of all I like the content of your site, although the readibility could be improved.

The ROM for the Dutch localized version is still 1.35.404.3 NLD. When I called HTC here in The Netherlands They were not aware of a newer 1.37 ROM, so I referred to your site. There reaction: You shouldn't trust those selfbuild ROM's... Shocked
And BTW, they say no routeplanner is officially supported, so no TomTom and no Route66 allowed...

But in this ROM we found some bugs and we are curious if you have them as well.
- If you activate TomTom 6 and shutdown the app, the GPS is still consuming the battery, fast!
- Sometimes after a reset the device is not repsonding to screen and buttons, a new reset is required.
- Hanging up after a phone conversation sometimes takes up to 5 seconds.
- When a phonecall is made , the screen is turned off and gives you a hard time turning it on again during the call. May come in handy if you have to activate phone keys for a menudriven system. You have to remove the stylus to do so.
- When sending a textmessage, there is no repsonse if the message was send.
- GPRS data counter which is mentioned in the manual, is not provided.

Keep up the good work!

Cheers,

Fred

[EDIT] corrected some typos

funny to see in the video that a couple of times you have to click twice before something happens. but in fact the phone was just being slow in reacting....

Thers also a time when the animation the most blatent being at around hte 35 second mark. Clearly their is lag and issues at least with the 3D user interface.

Also I was hoping Portuagal won last night after seeing the German clearly trying to injure Ronaldo by standing on his ankle.

Do you have a registry editor? Check out this key.
Code:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\SMSNoSentMsg

It is probably set to 1. Setting to 0 should cause the acknowledgement to display.

Most videos Ive seen show occurrences of repeat tapping and swiping because the device hasn't responded in time. Probably a combination of lag and touch screen insensitivity and WM trying to do too much in the background (that's where the iPhone wins with its prioritised UI processing). Most commentaries to those videos pretend that there's no issue and that the response times are instant. Just like the same reviewers did when they were pushing the TyTNII - and we all know what the reality was there.

Yeah I was one of the many who trusted the windows mobile sites when reviewing the Kaiser. I got my fingers burn't then. HTC can bog off as far as I am concerned.
